Granola Adds GPT-5 Support to Ask Granola Feature for Meeting Notes

Granola has added support for OpenAI's GPT-5 to its Ask Granola feature, giving users access to the latest generation of large language models when querying their meeting notes and folders.

The update allows users to ask questions across their entire workspace using GPT-5, from retrieving specific comments made in past meetings to surfacing patterns like top customer feature requests. Ask Granola already supported multiple LLMs, but the addition of GPT-5 provides users with OpenAI's newest model for faster, more nuanced responses.

Querying Meeting Context at Scale

Ask Granola functions as a natural language interface for meeting notes. Instead of manually searching through transcripts or skimming folders, users can ask conversational questions like "what did Clem say last week?" or "what are the top 3 feature requests from our customers?" The system searches across all notes and returns answers grounded in actual meeting content.

With GPT-5 now in the mix, Granola users can choose between different model backends depending on their needs. OpenAI's latest release brings improved reasoning and context handling, which could be particularly useful for complex queries that span multiple meetings or require synthesizing information from different conversations.

The feature builds on Granola's existing AI infrastructure. The company previously introduced Recipes, which let users turn meeting notes into reusable AI workflows, and more recently launched Model Context Protocol support to connect meeting notes to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other AI tools.

Why Multi-Model Support Matters

Granola's decision to support multiple LLMs reflects a broader trend in AI tooling. Different models excel at different tasks: some prioritize speed, others focus on accuracy, and newer models like GPT-5 aim to improve both. By giving users access to several options, Granola avoids lock-in to a single provider and lets teams choose the right model for their workflow.

The timing aligns with OpenAI's GPT-5 rollout, which has been gradually expanding access to developers and enterprise customers. For teams relying on Granola for customer research, sales follow-ups, or product discussions, having the latest model available means better answers when mining historical conversations for insights.

Granola has been steadily expanding its feature set around meeting intelligence. Recent updates include People and Companies views for tracking conversation threads over time, and iPhone phone call support for capturing notes beyond video meetings.

The GPT-5 integration is available now to all Granola users through the Ask Granola feature.
