Descript has introduced Workspaces for its Enterprise plan, a new feature designed to consolidate how video teams manage projects, permissions, and collaboration under a single system.
The audio and video editing platform announced on LinkedIn that Workspaces will provide three distinct layers: open workspaces for shared visibility across teams, private workspaces for restricted projects, and personal workspaces for drafts and individual work.
The update addresses a common friction point for larger organizations using Descript, where sprawling projects, team access, and file management can become fragmented. By centralizing these elements, Workspaces aims to reduce the administrative overhead teams often encounter when scaling video production workflows.
How It Works
Open workspaces allow teams to access shared projects without manual permission management, making them suited for collaborative work where visibility across departments or contributors is needed. Private workspaces restrict access to specific users or groups, useful for confidential projects or client work. Personal workspaces function as a sandbox for individual creators to iterate on drafts before moving them into shared environments.
According to Descript, the feature is available exclusively to Enterprise customers. The company positions Workspaces as part of a broader effort to support organizations managing multiple projects simultaneously, especially those with remote or distributed teams.
Descript has been steadily expanding its enterprise capabilities. Earlier this year, the company opened API beta access for developers and rolled out live captions in Rooms, its virtual recording environment. The platform also recently introduced color correction presets and expanded its library of video transitions.
Competing for Enterprise Attention
Workspaces puts Descript in more direct competition with platforms like Notion and Airtable, which have long offered workspace-based structures for organizing team content. While those tools focus on documentation and data, Descript's implementation is tailored specifically to video and audio production, where file sizes, collaboration workflows, and review cycles differ significantly.
For teams managing video at scale—whether for internal comms, marketing, or content production—the ability to segment projects by visibility and access could reduce bottlenecks. It also aligns with how many organizations already structure work in tools like Slack or Figma, where channels and files are grouped by team, project, or access level.
Descript has not disclosed pricing details for Enterprise plans or whether Workspaces will eventually roll out to lower tiers. The company continues to position itself as a hybrid tool for both individual creators and larger production teams, though features like Workspaces signal a push toward the latter.
