Descript Adds Color Correction Presets and Sliders for Video Editors

Descript has introduced a set of color correction tools designed to give video editors more granular control over their projects without leaving the text-based editing interface.

The update includes three main components: editable color presets, manual adjustment sliders, and a white balance picker. The announcement came via LinkedIn as part of the company's new "ASMR for Editors" series, a playful nod to the late-night workflow many creators know well.

Manual Controls Join Preset Library

The new color adjustment interface gives editors access to individual sliders for properties like saturation, brightness, and contrast, alongside a collection of presets for common looks. The white balance picker allows for quick correction of color temperature issues, a frequent problem when working with footage shot under mixed lighting conditions.

For editors who have been working in Descript, the addition addresses a gap between the platform's text-first editing philosophy and the visual polish required for finished video. Until now, color work typically required roundtripping to dedicated tools.

The controls appear to be designed for speed rather than professional colorist-level precision. That fits Descript's positioning as a collaborative editor that treats video like a document, a workflow the company has been refining since its early focus on podcast editing.

Building Out Post-Production Features

This update follows several moves by Descript to flesh out its video capabilities. The company recently rolled out nine new transitions including clock wipes, shape wipes, and scale effects, and added live captions to its Rooms recording feature. The pattern suggests Descript is methodically adding features that keep more of the post-production workflow inside a single tool.

The color tools are available now in the current version of Descript. The company has not disclosed whether the feature is restricted to paid tiers or available across all plans.

For teams that already use Descript for transcription-based editing and overdub work, the color controls reduce the number of handoffs required to finish a video. Whether the implementation is robust enough to replace dedicated color grading software for higher-end projects remains to be seen, but for quick adjustments and consistent looks across a content series, the addition should save time.
