Descript has released nine new video transitions designed to eliminate awkward cuts and reduce manual editing work. The update includes transitions such as Clock Wipe, Shape Wipe, Double Linear Wipe, Move In & Out, Push-Pull, Scale, Flip, Split, and Shake, bringing the platform's total to 16 transitions.
Several transitions come with granular controls, including direction, starting angle, feather, distance, scale percentage, and fade options. The additions help users quickly create smoother, more professional video flow without relying on complex keyframe editing.
Descript announced the update on its changelog, noting that the new transitions are organized in a refreshed grid layout with animated thumbnail previews. Users can now see the effect before applying it, and a new bulk apply option lets editors use the same transition across all scenes at once.
Expanded Controls for Fine-Tuning
The new transitions offer varying levels of customization. Clock Wipe, for example, supports directional control (clockwise or counterclockwise), starting angle, and feather adjustments. Shape Wipe lets users choose from shapes like circle, triangle, and square. Move In & Out transitions include direction, distance, and fade parameters.
Each transition appears with an animated preview in the properties panel, and advanced settings are accessible for users who want more control. The transitions icon sits between scenes in the timeline, or users can access the panel through the Properties menu.
Faster Workflows for Content Creators
The update follows Descript's focus on reducing editing friction for podcasters, video creators, and social media producers. By adding transitions with built-in controls, the platform aims to give users a faster path to polished output without requiring motion graphics expertise.
The bulk apply feature is particularly useful for creators working with multi-scene projects who want consistent visual flow. Rather than manually applying transitions one at a time, editors can select a style and apply it across an entire project in a few clicks.
Descript continues to expand its editing toolkit beyond text-based workflows. The platform has recently added Seedance 2.0 for in-app AI video generation and introduced features that let users fix on-camera mistakes by typing over spoken words.
The new transitions are available now to all Descript users. The platform continues to offer its signature text-based editing approach, where users can edit video and audio by manipulating transcripts. The latest update builds on that foundation by giving creators more visual polish options that integrate directly into the editing workflow.
