Netlify Co-Designs Protocol for Stripe Projects
Netlify has become a launch and design partner for Stripe Projects, positioning itself as more than just another integration in the platform. The company announced on LinkedIn that it worked directly with Stripe to co-design the protocol and credential flow, ensuring that projects provisioned from the terminal can move through previews, review, collaboration, and production without requiring developers to switch platforms.
"Provisioning is a solved problem," Netlify stated in the announcement. "The harder question is what happens after that first command."
This partnership represents Netlify's emphasis on what it calls "Agent Experience," a concept the company recently outlined as development workflows shift toward AI-assisted and agent-driven coding.
End-to-End Credential Flow
The integration allows developers and AI agents to provision Netlify hosting directly from the command line using Stripe Projects. According to the company, the credential flow is auditable end to end, addressing security and trust concerns that arise when agents provision infrastructure programmatically.
Netlify previously shipped Stripe Projects CLI integration as part of its broader push into agent-friendly tooling. That update enabled single-prompt deployment workflows where developers could go from idea to production without leaving the terminal.
The credential flow design means that when an agent or developer runs a provisioning command, they gain access to the full Netlify platform, including deploy previews, team collaboration features, and production deployment pipelines. This contrasts with integrations that simply connect a hosting service without deeper platform access.
Keeping Projects on a Single Platform
Netlify framed the partnership as solving a continuity problem. Many provisioning integrations add services to a project but require developers to leave their initial workflow to access features like staging environments, code review, or production deployment.

By co-designing the protocol, Netlify ensures that projects started through Stripe Projects remain within the Netlify ecosystem for their entire lifecycle. This includes access to Netlify's deploy preview system, which generates unique URLs for each commit, and its collaboration tools for reviewing changes before they reach production.
The company positions this approach as particularly relevant for agent-driven development, where an AI might provision infrastructure, generate code, deploy previews, and iterate based on feedback without human intervention at each step.
Focus on Agent Experience
Netlify has made agent-friendly development a central theme in recent updates. The company launched Start With a Prompt earlier this year, allowing developers to generate full project scaffolds from natural language descriptions. It has also introduced new CLI commands, including netlify logs, which outputs structured JSON for agent consumption.
The Stripe Projects integration extends this strategy by moving agent experience upstream in the development process. Rather than treating agents as consumers of existing APIs, Netlify worked with Stripe to design the provisioning protocol with agent workflows in mind from the start.
This approach reflects Netlify's belief that agent-driven development requires more than API access. It requires platforms designed for programmatic interaction at every stage, from initial provisioning through production deployment and monitoring.
Availability
The Stripe Projects integration is now available to all Netlify users. Developers can provision Netlify hosting through the Stripe Projects CLI, and projects will have immediate access to Netlify's full platform capabilities, including deploy previews, team collaboration, and production deployment workflows.
Netlify has not disclosed technical details about the protocol design or credential management system but emphasized that the flow is auditable and built for both human developers and AI agents.
