Netlify announced integration with Stripe's new Projects CLI, enabling developers and AI agents to provision, build, and deploy full-stack applications end-to-end from a single prompt.
Sean C Davis, a developer advocate at Netlify, demonstrated the workflow in a LinkedIn post using an example app called Pawcasso that generates AI-powered pet portraits in the style of Picasso. The integration allows developers to initialize a project with stripe projects init, select netlify/project as the provider, and hand control to a coding agent that handles everything from authentication to production deployment.
How the Workflow Operates
The Stripe Projects CLI provisions infrastructure components including Google authentication, image storage through Netlify Blobs, a production Postgres database, and Stripe payment processing. Once provisioning completes, the CLI passes project details to a coding agent.
The agent writes the application code, configures Stripe API keys as production environment variables, links the Netlify site, and triggers deployment. After deployment, it validates the live API by curling the production URL and testing endpoints before returning control to the developer.
This workflow builds on Netlify's recent expansion into AI-native development, which the company has been positioning as infrastructure built specifically for coding agents rather than just developers.
Technical Components
The Pawcasso demo integrates several services:
- Authentication: Google OAuth for user sign-in
- Storage: Netlify Blobs for uploaded pet photos
- Database: Production Postgres instance for user data and credits
- Payments: Stripe Checkout for purchasing image generation credits
- AI Generation: API integration for transforming photos into artwork
The integration handles environment variable configuration automatically. When the agent deploys to Netlify, it sets the Stripe secret key directly in the production environment without manual intervention.
Agent-First Infrastructure
This release extends Netlify's infrastructure to support what CEO Mathias Biilmann has described as Agent Experience moving upstream. Rather than developers writing code and deploying manually, agents handle the full cycle: provisioning resources, writing implementation code, configuring secrets, deploying, and validating production.
Netlify recently outlined its code trust framework for AI-generated deployments, addressing security and reliability concerns when agents ship code directly to production. The company also introduced Agent Runners in April 2026, purpose-built environments where coding agents can execute build and deployment tasks.
The Stripe integration makes the agent workflow concrete. Developers can initialize projects through the Stripe CLI and watch agents handle the technical implementation, from OAuth flows to payment processing to AI API calls.
The Pawcasso demo is live at pawcasso.netlify.app. Netlify has not specified whether the Stripe Projects integration is generally available or still in preview.
