n8n announced a strategic partnership with SAP that will embed its workflow automation platform directly into Joule Studio 2.0, SAP's AI orchestration environment. The integration will allow SAP's enterprise customer base to build AI agents using n8n's visual workflow builder while maintaining access to their existing SAP context and external system connections.
The partnership was unveiled at SAP Sapphire Madrid on May 19, where n8n founder Jan Oberhauser joined SAP CEO Christian Klein on stage. According to n8n's announcement on LinkedIn, the embedded integration is expected to roll out to SAP customers in the coming months.
SAP's Growing AI Agent Infrastructure
The move positions n8n as a core component of SAP's AI agent strategy. Joule Studio 2.0 serves as SAP's development environment for building AI-powered workflows that interact with SAP's business applications and data. By embedding n8n, SAP is essentially handing its enterprise customers a visual automation layer that bridges SAP's internal systems with external APIs and services.
Marvin-Micha Lutz from Schwarz Digits, the IT division of Schwarz Gruppe (parent company of Lidl and Kaufland), spoke at an enterprise dinner hosted by n8n in Madrid. He demonstrated how Schwarz Gruppe is implementing its AI agent strategy using n8n, offering a preview of how large enterprises might leverage the SAP integration.
Technical Implications for Enterprise Workflows
The integration addresses a persistent challenge in enterprise automation: connecting SAP's tightly integrated business suite with external tools and services. n8n's platform supports over 400 integrations and allows technical teams to write custom JavaScript or Python when pre-built nodes fall short. For SAP customers, this means building agents that can pull data from SAP ERP, trigger actions in third-party CRMs like Salesforce, or orchestrate multi-step workflows that span both SAP and non-SAP systems.
n8n has been expanding its enterprise footprint over the past year. The company recently partnered with Lovable on MCP integration to enable non-coders to build production software, and launched a Microsoft Agent 365 integration that deploys AI agents inside Teams and Outlook. The SAP partnership represents a significant step up in scale, given SAP's install base of more than 230 million cloud users.
SAP has not disclosed pricing or licensing terms for the embedded n8n integration. n8n offers both open-source and cloud-hosted versions of its platform, with enterprise pricing typically based on workflow executions and team size. It remains unclear whether SAP customers will access n8n through their existing SAP licenses or require separate agreements.
The partnership continues a broader trend of enterprise software vendors embedding automation platforms to reduce integration complexity. Competitors like Make and Zapier have pursued similar strategies with various SaaS ecosystems, though neither has announced a deal at SAP's scale.
n8n plans to attend SAP TechEd in Berlin next, suggesting further product announcements or technical deep dives may follow.
