n8n has launched support for Microsoft Agent 365, enabling users to build AI agents on n8n's canvas that function as team members inside Microsoft 365 applications.
The integration, now generally available, lets users deploy agents that can be @mentioned in Microsoft Teams or emailed through Outlook, SharePoint, or Word. Microsoft manages identity and compliance controls, while n8n handles the agent's logic, system prompts, tool calls, and actions across connected systems. The company announced the integration on LinkedIn and hosted a walkthrough session with Microsoft product managers.
Identity and Access Built Into Microsoft's Ecosystem
Microsoft Agent 365 assigns each n8n-built agent an identity within the Microsoft 365 environment. This means IT teams can apply governance controls and audit trails using Microsoft's existing access management framework. Agents appear alongside human team members in the organization directory and can be addressed the same way.
Users interact with agents through familiar interfaces. In Teams, an @mention triggers the agent. In Outlook, a direct email initiates a request. Results flow back into the conversation or thread, keeping the exchange within the user's existing workflow.
Building Agents on n8n's Canvas
The Microsoft Agent 365 Trigger node connects n8n workflows to Microsoft's agent infrastructure. Developers define what the agent does by configuring its system prompt, selecting tools from n8n's library of 400+ integrations, connecting to Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, or routing tasks to sub-workflows.

This architecture separates interface from logic. Microsoft handles where agents show up and who can access them; n8n defines how they respond and what systems they touch. The setup allows technical teams to control backend behavior without rebuilding frontend interfaces.
According to the event details, the integration walkthrough covered three areas: building agents with the new trigger node, setting up Microsoft environments with governance controls, and sending requests through Teams or Outlook.
Positioning for Enterprise Workflows
n8n has been expanding its enterprise capabilities over the past year. The company recently secured a strategic investment from SAP at a $5.2 billion valuation and launched integrations with SAP systems alongside the Microsoft Agent 365 support.
The Microsoft integration follows n8n's pattern of letting users build AI agents with code-level control while abstracting infrastructure complexity. Developers write prompts and logic on n8n's visual canvas, connect third-party APIs or databases, and deploy without managing authentication layers or compliance frameworks themselves.
For organizations already using Microsoft 365, the integration removes friction in agent deployment. Teams don't need to learn new interfaces or switch contexts to work with automation. Agents slot into existing communication patterns, whether that's a Teams channel, an Outlook inbox, or a SharePoint document workflow.
