Zapier User Builds Automated Sales Call Analysis Pipeline With Gong and Claude Integration

Blake Cohlan, a Zapier solutions engineer, built an automation that turns sales call transcripts into actionable insights without manual downloading or stitching. The workflow connects Gong, Salesforce, Google Drive, Slack, and Claude through Zapier to process new business opportunity calls and surface deal context on demand.

The system begins with a saved search in Gong filtered to net new business opportunities at a specific Salesforce stage. When a qualifying call completes, Gong sends a webhook to Zapier. The platform then pulls the full transcript plus deal context including stage, deal size, and next steps from Salesforce. Zapier checks Google Drive for an existing account folder, creates one if needed, and drops in a cleaned markdown file containing the transcript.

From there, the workflow generates a marketing-focused summary covering messaging, positioning, and content ideas. This summary gets pushed to Slack along with key deal details, keeping the sales and marketing teams aligned on account strategy.

Claude Skill for On-Demand Deal Intelligence

Cohlan extended the system with a Claude skill that handles common sales and marketing requests: prep for a call, get deal status, surface objections. The skill connects to Google Drive natively and uses Zapier's Model Context Protocol server to pull live data from Salesforce.

Team members can now type the skill name, mention an account, and ask a question. "What's the status with Wayne Enterprises?" returns the answer without manual searching or file downloading. This follows Zapier's broader push into AI agent functionality, as previously covered with their Copilot feature for non-technical users.

Template as Starting Point

Cohlan noted that he began with a similar template Zapier already offered and modified it to fit his team's specific needs, saving hours of initial setup. The template version focuses on generating AI-powered follow-up email drafts from Gong calls and integrates with HubSpot for task creation.

The workflow addresses a common bottleneck for sales teams: manually recreating context from past calls when strategizing on accounts. By automating transcript storage and making them queryable through Claude, the system eliminates the time sink of hunting down call recordings and stitching together fragments from multiple systems.

Zapier's MCP server enables Claude to interact with thousands of apps without complex API integrations, as detailed in their MCP guide. This makes it straightforward to connect AI tools like Claude to live data sources such as Salesforce, extending beyond static file storage in Google Drive.

The workflow demonstrates how automation platforms can bridge conversation intelligence tools like Gong with AI assistants, creating systems where deal context flows automatically from calls to summarized insights to on-demand queries. Teams no longer need to choose between thorough documentation and speed.

How to Get Your Product Recommended by Google and ChatGPT

Tanya Van Gastel presents the APEX framework for making products discoverable in AI-powered search engines like ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews. She explains how AI is fundamentally changing product discovery and buyer behavior, then breaks down five critical components: Authority (being cited as a solution), Presence (visibility across search platforms), Expertise (creating high-quality money pages), Endorsements (off-site validation), and Extractability (making content easy for AI to process). The talk emphasizes quality over quantity, with data showing 50% of SaaS SEO revenue comes from fewer than 10 high-performing pages.
