Tally Forms Launches Nested Folders to Organize Forms Up to 10 Levels Deep

Tally Forms has launched a folder system that lets users organize forms into nested hierarchies up to 10 levels deep, addressing a common pain point for teams managing dozens of forms in a single workspace.

The feature, announced on LinkedIn and detailed on the official changelog, is available to Tally Pro subscribers. Users can create, rename, and delete folders directly from the workspace sidebar or home page, and move forms between folders using a picker interface without leaving the dashboard.

Solving the Flat List Problem

The update targets a workflow issue that becomes acute as form libraries grow. Without folders, users had to scroll through flat lists of forms to find what they needed, a process that scales poorly beyond a few dozen items.

Nested folders allow teams to mirror their organizational structure or project taxonomy within Tally. A marketing team might nest folders by campaign, quarter, and form type; a product team might organize by feature area and release cycle. The 10-level depth limit accommodates complex hierarchies without sacrificing usability.

Folders work alongside collapsible workspaces, which Tally introduced earlier this month to help users manage multiple workspaces. Together, these features make the dashboard more scannable for users juggling client projects, internal tools, and team resources.

Dashboard-Native Management

All folder operations happen in the main Tally interface. Users can create folders from the sidebar, drag forms into them, and collapse or expand folder trees to focus on active projects. The picker interface for moving forms shows the full folder hierarchy, making it easy to relocate items even in deep structures.

Renaming and deleting folders are equally straightforward, with changes reflected immediately across the workspace. The implementation keeps the mental model simple: folders are containers, forms are items, and the sidebar is the control surface.

Pro-Tier Feature, Bootstrapped Focus

Folders are restricted to Tally Pro, which runs $29 per month for individuals or $59 per month for teams. The pricing reflects Tally's bootstrapped approach; the company grows through subscription revenue rather than venture capital, and pro features like folders, custom domains, and advanced integrations fund ongoing development.

Tally competes with Typeform, Jotform, and Google Forms in the form builder space. While those platforms have had folder or project organization for years, Tally's implementation focuses on speed and simplicity, keeping the feature lightweight rather than overloading it with permissions, tags, or metadata.

The folder launch follows other recent workflow improvements, including a font search tool and a formula editor for calculated fields. These updates suggest Tally is prioritizing power-user features for teams that have outgrown simpler form tools but want to avoid the complexity of platforms like Airtable or Notion.

Tally's help documentation covers folder setup and usage. The company also hosts monthly office hours where users can ask founders Marie and Filip questions directly.
