Berlin-based workflow automation platform n8n has announced a strategic investment from SAP that values the company at $5.2 billion, more than double its valuation from less than a year ago. The investment marks a significant milestone for what is now Germany's highest-valued AI startup and caps a week of major enterprise partnership announcements.
The investment comes alongside n8n's previously reported 10X revenue growth driven by AI agent workflows. According to a LinkedIn post from n8n team member Ani Allen, the company has been quietly building relationships with some of the world's largest enterprises, with extensive rollouts now happening across Germany.
Microsoft and SAP Integrations
n8n has been named a launch partner for Microsoft Agent 365, Microsoft's newly released enterprise AI agent platform. As part of the collaboration, n8n released the Agent 365 Node, enabling technical teams to connect workflows directly into Microsoft's enterprise ecosystem. Allen described the partnership as an "industry first AI orchestration and governance collaboration."
The company also announced a deep technical integration with SAP that enables all SAP users to connect their ERP systems through n8n's automation platform. The integration addresses a longstanding challenge for enterprises: connecting legacy systems with modern AI tools while maintaining governance and security standards.
Mercedes-Benz has publicly documented its company-wide n8n rollout and AI orchestration strategy, providing one of the first detailed case studies of enterprise-scale adoption.
Enterprise Shift
Allen's post outlined how n8n has evolved from a community automation tool to an enterprise AI orchestration layer:
The platform now serves three distinct functions:
- An agnostic automation layer connecting legacy systems, enterprise software, and AI tools
- A rapid AI agent builder that doesn't require specialized AI engineering skills
- An enterprise governance framework with observability, security, and scalability features
The model-agnostic approach allows enterprises to swap between providers like OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Anthropic, Ollama, and Mistral without rebuilding workflows. This flexibility has become increasingly valuable as new models launch with improved performance or lower costs.
Open Core Strategy
While n8n offers a free community version for individuals and small teams, the company has developed an enterprise license that transforms the platform into what Allen calls an "AI observability layer." This dual approach, similar to Supabase and other open-source infrastructure companies, allows n8n to maintain a large community while monetizing enterprise features like governance controls, audit logs, and advanced security.
The SAP investment and Microsoft partnership validate n8n's positioning as infrastructure for enterprise AI deployment. Allen emphasized that proving stability and trustworthiness to connect with company ERPs "takes time," suggesting the partnerships represent months of technical validation and security audits.
The announcements position n8n alongside Zapier and Make in the automation space, but with a distinct focus on technical users and enterprise AI orchestration rather than no-code simplicity. As enterprises move from AI experimentation to production deployment, n8n's governance features and model flexibility may prove decisive advantages in winning large contracts.
The $5.2 billion valuation also reflects broader investor confidence in AI infrastructure companies that provide the connective tissue between existing enterprise systems and new AI capabilities, rather than standalone AI applications.
