Glide Launches Multiplayer Mode for Real-Time Collaborative Apps

Glide has released Multiplayer, a new feature that brings real-time collaboration to its no-code app platform. Announced on LinkedIn, the update allows multiple users to work simultaneously within Glide apps, marking a significant shift from the platform's traditional single-user interaction model.

The feature is currently available as a public preview. Users can enable Multiplayer by navigating to Settings and toggling it on in the Public Preview Features panel.

What Multiplayer Enables

Multiplayer transforms Glide apps from static, single-user experiences into dynamic collaborative environments. When enabled, the feature allows multiple team members to view and interact with app data simultaneously, with changes reflected in real time across all connected users.

This capability addresses a core limitation in many no-code tools, where collaboration typically happens through workarounds like shared screens or sequential editing. With Multiplayer, teams can now work together inside the apps themselves, whether they're managing inventory, coordinating field operations, or updating project dashboards.

The feature builds on Glide's existing strengths in data management and workflows, extending real-time capabilities to the user interface layer. For teams already using Glide to replace spreadsheets and legacy systems, Multiplayer removes one more barrier to adoption: the inability to collaborate live.

How It Compares

Multiplayer puts Glide in closer competition with platforms like Notion and Airtable, both of which have long offered real-time collaboration as a default. However, Glide's approach differs in a key way: it applies multiplayer functionality to fully custom apps rather than database views or document editors.

This distinction matters for teams building specialized tools, portals, or dashboards where the interface itself is part of the value proposition. While Bubble and Softr offer similar app-building capabilities, neither emphasizes live collaboration to the same degree.

Public Preview and Rollout

Glide is releasing Multiplayer as a public preview rather than a general availability feature, which suggests the company is still refining performance and gathering feedback. Public previews typically allow broader testing while signaling that the feature may still evolve.

The toggle in Settings makes adoption opt-in, giving teams control over when to enable Multiplayer. This approach reduces risk for users running production apps where unexpected behavior could disrupt workflows.

Glide has not disclosed whether Multiplayer will remain available across all pricing tiers or eventually move to higher-tier plans. The feature's infrastructure requirements, particularly around real-time data synchronization, could influence future pricing decisions.

What's Next

Multiplayer represents a natural evolution for Glide, which has steadily expanded from simple spreadsheet apps to a full platform for business software. Recent updates like AI-powered app generation and enterprise SSO have positioned the tool for larger teams and more complex use cases.

With Multiplayer now in preview, the focus will likely shift to performance at scale. Real-time features can strain infrastructure when hundreds or thousands of users interact simultaneously, a challenge Glide will need to address as adoption grows.

For now, teams interested in testing Multiplayer can enable it immediately through the Public Preview Features panel. As with any preview feature, expect refinements and potential changes before it reaches general availability.
