News: Softr just went full-stack 🤯

Woooah... Softr continues its feature-shipping spree with a HUGE one: Workflows.

The Softr team has been on fire recently. First they added databases, then AI agents, and now workflows, meaning Softr can handle your frontend, backend, and app logic!

This is a massive improvement to an already feature-rich platform.

Why this matters

Previously Softr users had to use other automation platforms like Zapier to build the logic of their apps. Now they can do it all within Softr.

Workflows string together multi-step sequences of actions, triggered by a user action or change in the database. They can incorporate branching logic, AI agents, and 3rd-party tools like Gmail, Slack, or Notion.

Example uses

  • Final task complete ➡️ Switch project status to "Complete" ➡️ Notify project lead ➡️ Send AI summary to team.
  • New lead ➡️ AI Agent enriches the data ➡️ AI writes a personalised outreach email ➡️ Notify sales rep
  • Every week ➡️ AI generates and sends an email digest of key activities to the team

Tools (for your AI Agent)

Matt took this picture in the Natural History museum in Vienna

Indeed: tool use is a skill we can give to AI Agents.

If your agent’s an intern, tools are the things they can physically use to get the job done → the apps, APIs, and actions they can reach for.

No tools They can only talk about what to do.

Give them tools, and they can do it.

🍳 Think of it like cooking:

You can tell someone how to make an omelette, but without a pan, it’s just theory.

With a pan, eggs, and a hob — breakfast happens.

That’s what tools do for your agent: they turn ideas into action.

⚙️ What counts as a tool

Tools are abilities you can give to your agent. e.g

  • Sending an email
  • Searching the web
  • Creating a Google Doc
  • Running a Make or Zapier workflow
  • Pulling data from Notion or Airtable
  • Running Python to analyse or transform data.
  • Making any HTTP request
  • Connecting to an MCP Server

Each tool adds a new “hand” your agent can use.

in this example the AI Agent can get articles from newsapi.org or scrape Linkedn via Apify. and then draft a newsletter (this simple newsletter agent is how we teach students how to build AI Agents in the 100School Agents Bootcamp

If you want to start building with agents now we've partnered with 100School's Agent Bootcamp. All Create With members get 20% off all bootcamps.

🔄 How tools work with context and goal

  • Goal = what success looks like (“Send follow-up emails to warm leads”).
  • Context = the background (“We always write in a warm and conversational style.”).
  • Tools = how it’s done (“Use Gmail and HubSpot APIs to send messages”).

Together, they form the full picture.

🪄 When people say “tool calling” or “function calling"...

That’s just AI-speak for giving the model permission to use external functions.

Instead of saying, “Here’s the data,” you let it fetch the data itself.

💡 Why this matters

The more capable your agent’s toolbox, the less it needs you for routine work.

But as with any apprentice → you still decide which tools it’s allowed to use, and when*

*it's hard to get the when part exactly; but a well written few shot system prompt should give you the best chance

Give it power wisely.

📺 Using Claude Code to automate everything

In this video from the Create with Bristol meetup in October 2025, Andrew Bryce explains how he uses Claude Code to build almost anything he can dream of.

He goes into detail about how he's leveraged it to build internal software and automations that run his agency and enables them to 10x their output.

This is a fascinating talk, absolutely packed with value, and will completely change your perspective on what's possible with AI-generated code!

🔊 On your radar

Keep your finger on the pulse of what we think is hot in the space right now 🔥

Google AI Studio adds “vibe‑coding” mode for faster prototyping

👉 Why it matters: We've been using the Google AI Studio internally for teaching. It's impressive what you can build without having to subscribe to another 20$ subscription. You can now deploy an app via your Google Cloud billing account and the AI Studio does all the setup for you. As part of a recent bootcamp, Matt in less than 10 minutes, showcased how to bulk optimise e-commerce photos.

Matt took these photos of items in the house and the app removes the background and makes them Shopify ready

Gumloop Agents is out of beta

👉 Why it matters: Gumloop now lets you build custom agents that can reason, pick the right tools, and run your existing workflows right from inside Slack. For no‑code teams, this means you can turn common tasks into chat requests, keep the repeatable bits in workflows, and let agents handle the messy, open‑ended steps. We've yet to play with these.

Lindy releases the AI CMO: Three agents to research, analyse and create campaigns

👉 Why it matters: Lindy’s AI CMO compresses marketing work into a clear flow. Research maps your market and positioning. Analysis scans trends, ads and keywords, then outputs a brief. Creative turns that brief into copy, ads and videos with model integrations and Airtable organisation. You can use one agent or all three to ship campaigns faster without agency overheads. We've noticed a few tools are doing something similar E.g this is in essence a template but it's wrapped around a 'well structured agent' that has some killer prompts and guidelines.
