OpenAI GPT4o image generator

The last 7 days saw one of the most impressive product releases by OpenAI.

As Google rolled out it's new model, OpenAI found a way to re-capture our attention with its new image generation capabilities.

Currently it's only available on a paid plan so we've scoured the internet and trolled ourselves all week to help you decide whether it's worth the money.

Here's what we've learned...

...

Released on March 25th 2025, 4o image generation does the following things

  1. Text to image creation
  2. Text to image editing

It produces beautiful and useful images.

And that's the big takeaway. It's actually useful.

Users believe so as well, 1 million users in 1 hour!

✏️ Practical Use Cases

For cash-strapped founders or an under-resourced marketing team; you really do have a hyper fast creative assistant who, with basic prompting, can create incredible assets.

Product Photography

The level of detail is insane. This is from an iPhone 15 photo of the milk powder.

🍕 Team takeaway

The use case for AI has now widened for media creation. AI text in images up until now has been very unreliable. GPT4o seems to have mostly solved this.

Now small business owners don't need to create a Canva account to generate a simple instagram image. Pros don’t have to open up photoshop to edit text. At least for right now, e-commerce is a big winner as creating and refreshing product content is even easier.

This, however, does not mean the death of the designer. Quite the contrary. Designers can bring their knowledge and 10x their output.

🙁 What it's bad at

OpenAI admit that it can still hallucinate randomly chop of parts of image. So yes, it cannot be fully relied upon; but it sure as hell is 'good enough'.

✏️ Fun Use Cases

Family and friends

Memes

Even if you don't use the images in production; to have the ability to play with ideas to understand what you really want

April fools

We thought we'd play a joke with Kieran this morning. Here's his tweet from April last year.

This is not intended to be a "look at me and my perfect life" post. More of a "gratitude and also I'm a boring car dad" post. Recently we found out our 13 year old car needed more repairs than it's worth. Time for a new car! We frantically started looking for one - we need it

🍕 Team Takeaways

Once the initial buzz has died down; we should see an increase in better quality ephemeral content created. The power to create is now in the hands of the user.

⭐️ Expert Tips 🧙🏾

1️⃣ Start a new thread for each new image where possible to minimise hallucination

2️⃣ Use HEX colour codes to control colouring

3️⃣ Use JSON snippets for predictable layouts

4️⃣ When uploading logo files or images containing text, also include the logo text in the prompt to improve rendering

5️⃣ Request an image to have a transparent background so you can take it to Figma/Photoshop

🔊 On your radar

Keep your finger on the pulse on what's hot in the space right now
