😣 Explain like I'm 5 (Jargon Buster)
One of the talks we're most excited for at next week's conference is Alex Rainey's talk on how to build a 6-figure AI SaaS without code.
But what's a SaaS I hear you ask
According to Create With co-founder Kieran, it's the holy grail.
Let's unpack.
SaaS
❓ What it means
SaaS stands for Software as a Service — instead of buying software once and installing it (1980's/90's vibe), you pay monthly. Like paying for Netflix, but instead of movies, you get tools for work. Chances are you are already doing it.
🧠 Why it matters
For the past 20+ years, SaaS has been how internet business gets done. Giants like Salesforce, HubSpot, and ServiceNow built empires by selling software as subscriptions — a little bit each month, forever. It became the default model, especially for selling into enterprises.
🔐 What it unlocks
For entrepreneurs, SaaS is a proven playbook. You can carve out a tiny niche (say, scheduling tools for dog walkers) and turn it into recurring revenue. Build once, sell many times. No warehouses, no shipping — just software in the cloud.
**🤪 But here’s the twist...**
With AI making it easier (and cheaper) to build smart tools, the SaaS model might evolve. Will people still pay monthly for static software, when agents can do the work instead of just providing the tool
SaaS made software accessible. AI might make software invisible.
Here's an idea for you 👇
Mike coined the term Agents As A Service
🔊 On your radar
Keep your finger on the pulse of what's hot in the space right now
⭐️ Buildship shipped its latest AI ready feature. It lets you build MCP-ready tools for your AI agents - just by prompting!
👉 This matters because: You get a visual logic flow of the tool instead of a large code blob. Tweak, test, and perfect your tool’s logic, on an infinite low-code canvas. Host the tool instantly or export the code to self-host. We like this. This video with Eleven labs (voice AI) is cool as well
Buildship's new AI-ready feature
⭐️ Mistral is coming after OpenAI and Claude Anthropic
👉 This matters because: It's rich in features and aggressively priced. It has Integration with your company knowledge (starting with Gmail, Google Drive, Sharepoint…). The ability to add frequently used documents for better-informed outputs and even secure deployment: on-premise, in your cloud, or as a service.
⭐️ Firebase studio runs on Google Gemini 2.5 for free
👉 This matters because: The cost of creating, building, testing, failing, repeating is zero. The feedback for Gemini 2.5 is very positive, partly because of it has an incredibly large content window. I made the below boiler plate SAAS tool with 1 prompt.
Built with Firebase with 1 prompt
🤖 Extra bytes
- Microsoft Copilot has a canvas feature
- YC summer batch open until 13th May 8pm PT (TONIGHT)
- A mega thread on prompting guides. Alvaro Cintas is a good person to follow
- You can search the web via the Claude Anthopic API. This means deeper, richer experiences in your AI wrappers
- Traditional RAG vs Agentic RAG explained with visuals
The big idea
It's hard to know what skills to focus on for the next few decades. The Lindy Effect is a helpful thought framework.
The Lindy Effect says: if a skill has stayed valuable for decades, it’s likely to outlive the AI wave too.
Persuasion, negotiation, design taste, critical thinking—these “pre‑microchip” abilities don’t get obsolete. In fact, AI often amplifies them. So guard a core stack of durable skills while layering tech tricks on top.
👉 How to apply this in real life
Lock in the Lindy core
- Pick 3 timeless skills (e.g., storytelling, strategic questioning, deal‑making) that boost any role.
- Daily reps. Find ways to practice them every day. Do live calls, demos, or writing; small iterations beat big theory.
- Lean in to human interactions. Actively seek out opportunities to build these skills. Join communities, or better still, build them.
Layer AI as an exoskeleton
- Use models as sparring partners. Use AI as a thought partner, not a teacher. Get it to ask you questions that make you think, not the other way around.
- Automate the mundane, own the judgment. Let AI summarise data or draft the document; you own the higher-level insight and narrative.
- Scenario simulator. Feed chatbots past call transcripts and ask it how to improve your communication, then run rehearsals with it.
Refresh the filter quarterly
- Trend scan. Ask, “Which of my tasks did AI get better at this quarter?”—shift those to automation.
- Re‑invest hours. This is crucial. Redirect saved time into deeper human craft: negotiation practice, design critiques, mentoring.
- Public proof. Share one distilled lesson a week (tweet, post, podcast) to signal—and strengthen—your Lindy edge.
Mediums change. The message endures.
