Command Line / Terminal

The command line is a text-based way to control your computer. You type commands (like ‎`ls` to list files) and get instant results. It’s powerful for managing files, running programs, and automating tasks... but until now it's only been really useful for developers.

If you're on Mac you access this interface via your terminal (Search your applications to find it, if you're on Windows you'll need to install a separate app).

When opened it looks like this.

It's the most direct way of accessing functionality in your computer.

It's also dangerously powerful so beware (watch the masterclass).

But what about us 'non-techie' developers?

This is where Claude Code has suddenly allowed something tricky to navigate to become relatively straight forward (at least to get you going...)

Claude Code and Command Line

Claude Code is an AI coding assistant you use directly from the command line / terminal. Instead of just running basic commands, you can ask Claude Code to help write, debug, and deploy code—all by typing instructions in your terminal. This makes advanced coding tasks faster and more accessible, even for beginners.

1️⃣ Subscribe to Claude Pro

While you have to pay for Claude Pro it's a nice extra benefit. You can still use the Claude app as normal but also use Claude Code.

2️⃣ Use Plan Mode (press: shift-tab)

It creates a detailed roadmap before writing any code. It breaks down your request into specific tasks, shows you exactly what it intends to build (file structure, technologies, features), and lets you modify this plan through conversation.

It only starts executing when you approve it. This prevents the common problem of AI tools going off track and building something you didn't want.

3️⃣ You don't need to know Git commands

Github is a cloud service developers use to store their code. The problem is it's hard to use for non-developers because it has its own syntax to remember.

Thankfully you can just tell Claude "push to GitHub" in plain English. It handles it for you.
