It's taking on X and even Threads (remember that).
We're here to help you understand what's going on so you can take full advantage
What is it?
It’s like X (formerly Twitter) but decentralised. It runs on a protocol that allows the user to own their profile and move between different servers. Will anyone actually do that Who knows. Supposedly it’s more transparent. You can check the code of the algorithms so no more mysteries on why your photo of your cat isn't performing like it was last week 🐈
And it's just hit 20M+ users.
Why it’s becoming popular now
A multiple of reasons. Elon Musk and his behaviour on X is pushing people away. US election added to this. A general discontent with how the X algo was working/not working.
Then comes the network effect and where the party is at 🥳
Why is useful for you as creator?
- You own your account and the data so you can migrate to another server. In other words; you have more protection. You cannot be cancelled
- It's a new, underserved marketing channel
- It's supposedly more pleasant (early indie maker vibes we hear)
Where to start?
They have lists, rebranded as 'Starter Packs' where you can find accounts you might like. Here's some to get you started:

- Waste time by slapping your product logo on things. This is handy for marketing fun.
- Wordware let's you build ai applications with only natural language. One to watch.
- Blackforest labs have unveiled even more advanced image creation capabilitities Try it here.
- Create AI-generated content in Shorts with Dream Screen. There are a number of tools that do this already; so they won't be happy.
- Claude supports google drive. Google Drive is a bugger to organise files; so you don't have to now.
- A local first, open source, Notion alternative. Supposedly it's lightening fast.
