Zapier's updated Copilot feature is turning natural language prompts into complex multi-app workflows, with users reporting they can build end-to-end automations in minutes without touching a single configuration panel.
The feature, highlighted in a recent demonstration, shows how Copilot can interpret a single detailed prompt and automatically connect multiple tools. In one example, a user asked Copilot to create a workflow that pulls call transcripts, extracts action items using AI, and compiles them into a daily Google Doc. Copilot handled the app connections, configured the AI summarization step, created the destination spreadsheet, and set up the daily trigger without requiring manual setup.
How It Works
The workflow begins with Copilot asking clarifying questions about which apps the user wants to connect. After identifying the note-taking app for call transcripts, it offers a choice between OpenAI's models or Zapier's own AI for summarization. It then provides step-by-step instructions for users who need guidance on configuring each part of the automation.
The demonstration workflow runs on a daily schedule at 6 PM, pulling all call transcripts from that day, sending them to an AI model with specific instructions to extract action items, and formatting the output as a clean to-do list grouped by call. The results are automatically sent to a Google Doc, though users can route them to Slack, email, or other destinations.
What Makes This Different
The key shift is that Copilot handles the connective tissue between apps that typically requires manual configuration. Instead of navigating through trigger selection, field mapping, and testing each step, users describe what they want in plain language. Copilot interprets the intent, suggests the right apps and actions, and builds the workflow structure.
This approach mirrors recent trends in automation where platforms are reducing the technical overhead of connecting tools. As we previously covered, users are already building workflows that eliminate manual data entry across multiple systems. Copilot extends this by removing the workflow setup itself as a friction point.
Practical Applications
The call transcript example shows one use case, but the same pattern applies to other scenarios where data needs to move between apps on a schedule. Users could prompt Copilot to monitor form submissions and route them to different teams based on criteria, or to aggregate updates from project management tools into a weekly summary.
The feature is available now through Zapier's platform. Users interested in replicating the call transcript workflow can access a template that includes the specific prompt structure: pulling transcripts from a preferred app, processing them through an AI model with instructions to extract concrete action items, and routing the output to a destination app on a daily schedule.
Zapier continues to expand its automation capabilities across its network of over 7,000 connected apps, with Copilot representing the latest step in making workflow creation more accessible to users without automation experience.
