Tally Forms has added PDF export functionality to its automation integrations, allowing users to generate downloadable PDF versions of form submissions through Zapier, Make, n8n, Webhooks, Notion, and Airtable. The update extends the platform's recent PDF features into workflow automation, enabling teams to programmatically store, route, or attach formatted submission records.
The feature builds on Tally's recent release of PDF attachments in email notifications, which launched last week. Where that update focused on manual delivery, the new integration capability brings PDF generation into automated workflows. Each submission now includes a download link that automation platforms can access and manipulate as part of larger processes.
How the Integration Works
When a form submission triggers an automation through any of the supported platforms, Tally now provides a PDF download URL alongside the standard field data. Teams can use this URL to automatically save PDFs to cloud storage, attach them to project management tickets, send them through customer support systems, or archive them in document management platforms.
The implementation supports all six major integration pathways Tally offers. Zapier and Make users can add PDF handling steps to existing zaps and scenarios without rebuilding their workflows. Webhook implementations receive the PDF URL in the payload. Notion and Airtable integrations can store the link directly in database fields for on-demand access.
The feature works with all form types, including multi-page forms, conditional logic forms, and forms with file uploads. PDFs maintain Tally's standard formatting, showing field labels, user responses, and submission metadata. File uploads appear as links within the PDF rather than embedded files.
Use Cases for Automated PDF Workflows
The automation capability addresses several common pain points in form-based workflows. Customer onboarding teams can now automatically generate and store formatted application records. Event organizers can route registration PDFs to appropriate team members based on form responses. Legal and compliance teams can archive submission records with timestamps and formatting intact.
Some teams have already built workflows that combine PDF generation with other automation steps. A registration form might trigger a zap that saves the PDF to Google Drive, creates a task in Asana, and sends a formatted email with the PDF attached. Support intake forms can automatically create tickets with PDF attachments for historical reference.
The feature also supports approval workflows. Teams can configure automations that generate PDFs, send them for review, and only proceed with subsequent steps after approval. This eliminates the manual step of downloading and forwarding submission records.
Technical Implementation
Tally generates PDFs server-side when an integration requests them, rather than pre-generating files for every submission. This approach reduces storage overhead and ensures PDFs reflect the current form structure if field labels or formatting change after submission. The download URLs remain valid indefinitely, allowing teams to access historical submissions without time constraints.
The PDF URLs work with standard HTTP requests, making them compatible with custom webhook handlers and API integrations beyond Tally's native integration list. Developers can incorporate the URLs into internal tools or connect them to platforms Tally doesn't directly support.
The feature is available across all Tally pricing tiers, including the free plan. There are no limits on the number of PDFs that can be generated through integrations, matching Tally's unlimited submissions model. The company has indicated that PDF customization options, such as custom headers and branding, may come in future updates.
