Notion has introduced Finance 2.0, a framework designed to help finance teams transition from traditional workflows to AI-native operations. The company outlined a three-step playbook built around agents that handle the first pass of routine tasks while humans focus on analysis and decision-making.
The approach addresses a common challenge for finance teams: spending too much time assembling data rather than interpreting it. According to a LinkedIn post from Rama Katkar, Notion's head of finance, the shift to AI-native work requires more than simply adding AI tools to existing processes. Instead, teams need to redesign workflows around what agents can handle autonomously.
The Three-Step Playbook
Notion's Finance 2.0 framework begins with centralizing data from multiple systems of record into a single accessible location. This step includes adding consistent definitions and context so AI tools can interpret data accurately across teams.
The second step involves redesigning workflows specifically for AI-in-the-loop operations, rather than bolting automation onto legacy processes. The final step establishes a parallel workflow where agents complete initial work and humans remediate in real time. This approach aims to improve both efficiency and accuracy while reducing manual errors.
Concrete Time Savings
Katkar shared two examples from Notion's internal finance operations. The company's monthly ARR Flash report covers more than 50 metrics and 70 charts. Before implementing agents, the report required over 10 hours of manual work. An AI agent now runs queries, builds charts, writes commentary, and publishes to Notion in approximately 20 minutes of passive work.
AI cost reporting saw similar improvements. Tracking AI spend across dozens of sources previously took more than two hours per report. A Notion agent now handles the task in under five minutes, with instant responses to ad-hoc questions like "why did cost per seat increase?"
Notion's corporate development team built what they call a virtual team of agents within Notion, saving 15 to 20 hours per week. Hilary Shirazi and Amanda Shi demonstrated their Agent Library in a video shared alongside the announcement.

Building on the Developer Platform
The Finance 2.0 approach relies heavily on capabilities introduced in Notion's Developer Platform, which provides building blocks for creating custom agents and automations. The platform includes Workers for syncing external data sources and tools for building custom agent capabilities.
Finance 2.0 represents a shift from optimizing around the edges to fundamentally rethinking how finance work flows in an agentic era. The framework balances speed with finance mandates for accuracy, compliance, and auditability by keeping humans in the loop for remediation and final review.
Notion plans to share additional examples from across its finance team in the coming days. The company positions Finance 2.0 as part of a broader evolution in finance operations, from paper ledgers to spreadsheets to ERPs to cloud analytics, and now to agentic systems where AI functions as a teammate rather than just an analytical tool.
