n8n Brings AI Agents Directly Into Microsoft 365 Workspace
n8n has made its Microsoft Agent 365 capability generally available, allowing teams to build AI agents that operate natively inside Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, and SharePoint. The agents appear as distinct members of the workspace with their own identity, responding to @mentions, email CCs, and document shares the same way a human colleague would.
The integration addresses a core friction point in enterprise automation: getting AI agents into the tools employees already use daily. Rather than requiring users to switch contexts or learn new interfaces, n8n agents can now be invoked directly within Microsoft's productivity suite. A team member can @mention an agent in a Teams channel, CC it on an email thread, or share a document with it to trigger automated workflows.
Building Agents on the n8n Canvas
Users configure agent behavior using the Microsoft Agent 365 node on n8n's visual canvas. The agent can call any combination of native n8n nodes, Model Context Protocol servers, or existing sub-workflows as tools. This means a single @mention in Teams can trigger multi-step automations that span multiple systems without requiring manual login or data gathering.
For example, an agent could be configured to:
- Pull data from internal databases
- Query external APIs
- Generate reports using connected analytics tools
- Route findings to the appropriate team channels
- Kick off approval workflows in other platforms
The canvas-based approach lets technical teams design agent capabilities without hardcoding logic, using the same visual workflow builder they already use for other n8n automations.
Enterprise Deployment Requirements
The feature is available to any team with a Microsoft 365 tenant and n8n instance. Because n8n is open source and self-hostable, organizations can deploy agents on their own infrastructure and maintain full control over data flows and access policies.
n8n emphasized that the agent architecture is designed to replace repetitive manual work like logging into multiple systems each morning, consolidating findings from disparate sources, and initiating next steps based on gathered information. The company's recent work on production AI patterns suggests the platform is positioning itself for teams moving AI agents beyond prototypes into daily operational use.
The general availability release follows a period of beta testing and builds on n8n's broader strategy of enabling technical teams to build AI solutions that integrate with existing software stacks at what the company describes as "no-code speed and code flexibility."
Full documentation and implementation details are available on n8n's blog.
