n8n has introduced a new Merge Agent Handler node that expands integration options for users building AI agent workflows. The update adds access to more than 20 new connections through Merge's unified API platform, according to an announcement on LinkedIn.
The Merge platform aggregates APIs across multiple categories including HR systems, accounting software, ticketing platforms, and file storage services. By integrating Merge's unified API layer, n8n users can now connect their automation workflows and AI agents to these third-party systems without building individual integrations for each service.
What the Integration Enables
The new node allows n8n workflows to interact with systems that Merge supports. This matters for technical teams that need their AI agents to pull data from or push actions to business software they already use, such as applicant tracking systems, CRM platforms, or project management tools.
n8n's approach remains consistent with its positioning as a workflow automation platform for technical users. The tool provides both visual workflow building and code-level flexibility, making it suitable for teams that need more control than traditional no-code platforms offer but want faster development than pure coding requires. The platform is open source and self-hostable, a differentiator in the automation space where most competitors run exclusively as cloud services.
Expanding Agent Capabilities
This release follows n8n's continued expansion of AI agent functionality. The platform recently launched a Moonshot Kimi node for Chinese language model integration and has been releasing workflow templates for common automation scenarios, including employee onboarding and Google Drive management.
The Merge integration addresses a practical challenge in enterprise automation: connecting to the long tail of business software. Rather than building and maintaining dozens of native integrations, n8n can leverage Merge's existing connections. This strategy is common among automation platforms competing with established players like Zapier and Make, which have spent years building extensive app directories.
For developers building AI agents that need to interact with business systems, the update reduces integration overhead. An agent that needs to check applicant status in an ATS, retrieve files from a storage system, and update a project management tool can now do so through a single unified node rather than three separate custom integrations.
The node is available now to n8n users. Technical documentation for the Merge Agent Handler node has not been publicly linked in the announcement, though it will likely appear in n8n's standard node documentation as the feature rolls out.
