MailerLite Overhauls Automation Builder With Drag-and-Drop Interface and Testing Features

MailerLite has overhauled its automation builder with a drag-and-drop interface designed to simplify the process of creating email workflows. The update, announced on LinkedIn, brings the platform's familiar visual editing experience to automation workflows, following their recent rebuild of the automation builder.

The new interface allows users to construct multi-step email sequences by dragging workflow components onto a canvas. According to the company, this addresses user feedback about the complexity of setting up automated campaigns, particularly for e-commerce and lead nurturing use cases.

New Triggers and E-Commerce Capabilities

The update introduces a "joins segment" trigger, which fires automations when subscribers meet specific criteria and are added to a segment. This complements existing triggers like form submissions and product purchases, giving users more granular control over when automated sequences begin.

For e-commerce users, MailerLite now supports multiple triggers within a single automation, enabling workflows that respond to different purchasing behaviors simultaneously. The company highlighted abandoned cart recovery as a key use case, though the system can handle any combination of store events.

MailerLite competes with platforms like ConvertKit and Mailchimp in the email marketing space, where automation sophistication increasingly differentiates products. The addition of multi-trigger support puts MailerLite closer to feature parity with enterprise-focused competitors while maintaining its accessible pricing model.

Testing Before Launch

Perhaps the most practical addition is the ability to test all automation emails before activation. Users can now send test messages to themselves or team members, previewing exactly how automated sequences will appear to subscribers. This prevents the common scenario where users discover formatting issues or broken links only after an automation has already sent to real contacts.

The testing feature works across all email steps in an automation, not just the initial message. For complex sequences with conditional logic or time delays, this means validating the entire customer journey before it goes live.

The company positions the update as part of a broader effort to make advanced marketing automation accessible to small businesses and solo operators. By removing technical barriers, MailerLite aims to help users implement sophisticated nurture sequences, product launch campaigns, and lifecycle marketing without needing developer support or training.

The updated automation builder is available now to all MailerLite users. The company has published a detailed guide on its blog walking through the new features and common workflow patterns.
