Intercom is expanding its AI agent Fin beyond customer support into go-to-market roles, the company announced on LinkedIn. Fin currently delivers over 2 million resolutions per week for more than 8,000 customers, including Whoop, Carvana, and MPB. Now it is stepping into sales pipeline growth and transforming the buyer experience.
The move comes following months of momentum for Fin in support contexts, where the agent has achieved resolution rates as high as 70% for customers like IG Group. Intercom is now leveraging that foundation to position Fin as a cross-functional agent that can drive outcomes across customer service, sales, and the buyer journey.
Fin for Sales Joins Support Role
Intercom recently launched Fin for Sales, which works alongside sales teams to grow pipeline more efficiently. According to the company's blog post announcing the role, the agent applies the same conversational AI capabilities that power support interactions to engage prospects, qualify leads, and route opportunities to the right team members. Intercom also released The Sales Agent Blueprint, a guide for businesses looking to launch and scale AI agents for sales.
The sales role represents a strategic shift for Intercom, which has historically focused on support and engagement use cases. By moving Fin into revenue-generating functions, the company is positioning itself as a platform for end-to-end customer lifecycle management, not just post-sale support.
Buyer Experience Role Coming Soon
Intercom teased a third major role for Fin focused on transforming the buyer experience. The company plans to reveal details at a live event on May 7, where it will demonstrate how Fin can create better buyer experiences by connecting service and growth using shared context, data, and custom models.
While specifics remain under wraps, the emphasis on shared context suggests Fin will bridge pre-sale and post-sale interactions, providing continuity across the customer journey. This approach contrasts with traditional siloed tools where sales, marketing, and support teams operate on separate platforms with fragmented data. If Fin can unify these workflows, it could address a longstanding pain point for go-to-market teams trying to deliver consistent experiences.
Building on Support Performance
Fin's expansion builds on strong performance in support contexts. The agent resolves customer queries autonomously using a combination of knowledge base articles, conversation history, and contextual understanding. Customers like AppFolio have reported 65% case resolution rates, and Intercom introduced the Fin Flywheel, a continuous improvement system that trains the agent based on real interactions.
The agent competes in a crowded market where platforms like Zendesk, Freshdesk, and HubSpot are also layering AI into support and CRM workflows. Intercom's bet is that a unified agent with roles across service, sales, and buyer experience will deliver more value than point solutions.
Intercom has not disclosed pricing for Fin for Sales or the buyer experience role. The company offers Fin as an add-on to its existing customer service platform, with costs typically based on resolution volume. Businesses interested in the new roles can register for the May 7 event to learn more about availability and implementation.
