Intercom Launches Fin for Sales to Handle End-to-End Inbound Lead Qualification

Intercom has launched Fin for Sales, a new role for its AI agent that handles the complete inbound sales process without human intervention. The feature, announced on the company blog, allows Fin to engage prospects, explain products, and route qualified opportunities to sales teams.

The expansion marks Intercom's most significant push beyond customer support since the platform introduced its AI agent capabilities. Where Fin previously focused on resolving support tickets, it now manages initial sales conversations, qualification workflows, and handoffs to human reps.

How Fin for Sales Works

Fin for Sales operates as a first responder for inbound inquiries. When a prospect reaches out through Intercom's messenger, Fin engages them in conversation, asks qualifying questions, and provides product information based on the company's knowledge base and sales playbooks.

The system uses real-time intent signals to determine whether a conversation should continue with the AI agent or escalate to a human sales rep. Fin can handle common questions about pricing, features, and use cases while identifying high-value opportunities that warrant immediate attention from the sales team.

Intercom positions the feature as performing like a top sales development representative, but with unlimited capacity. The company claims Fin can maintain consistent qualification standards across every inbound conversation, something difficult to achieve with human SDR teams that experience turnover and varying skill levels.

Early Results from Attio

Attio, a CRM platform, has rebuilt its inbound sales motion around Fin for Sales. The company uses Fin to handle initial prospect engagement and route qualified leads based on intent signals captured during AI-driven conversations.

According to Intercom's announcement, Attio has seen significant improvements in response time and qualification consistency. By automating the first touchpoint, Attio's sales team can focus on conversations with prospects who have already been educated about the product and shown genuine buying intent.

The case study follows Intercom's broader expansion of Fin beyond support, which the company announced earlier this year as part of its strategy to position AI agents across the entire customer lifecycle.

Sales Agent Blueprint Available

Alongside the product launch, Intercom released The Sales Agent Blueprint, a guide for companies implementing AI agents in their sales processes. The blueprint covers setup workflows, qualification frameworks, and handoff protocols between AI and human reps.

The timing reflects growing adoption of AI in sales automation. While tools like Drift and Qualified have offered conversational marketing features, Intercom's approach integrates sales qualification directly into its existing messenger platform, which already handles support and product communications.

Fin for Sales is available now to Intercom customers. The company has not disclosed separate pricing for the sales role, though it typically charges based on AI agent resolution volume across all Fin capabilities. Companies interested in the feature can request access through Intercom's sales team or existing account representatives.
