Granola has added a feature that turns meeting notes into actionable checklists. Users can now ask Granola Chat to extract and add a checklist of action items directly to their notes, as announced on LinkedIn. The update also includes a Recipe that aggregates to-dos from multiple meetings, giving users a single view of what needs to get done.
The workflow is straightforward. After a meeting, users open their note and ask Granola Chat to add a checklist of action items. The AI regenerates the notes with a formatted checklist that users can check off as tasks are completed. For people who juggle multiple meetings daily, this removes the step of manually extracting next steps from long transcripts.
Aggregating To-Dos Across Meetings
The update also introduces a Recipe called /List recent todos that pulls action items from multiple meetings at once. Users can run this Recipe from a folder view or the home screen to see a consolidated list of what they need to tackle. This addresses a common pain point: action items scattered across dozens of meeting notes with no centralized place to track them.
Granola is positioning this as a natural extension of its note-taking workflow rather than a full task management system. The company made that clear in its announcement, stating that Granola isn't a to-do list app but does know what users need to get done based on meeting context.
The feature builds on Granola's recent expansion of its Recipes functionality, which already allowed users to transform transcripts into different formats like help docs. The addition of checklist generation and cross-meeting aggregation extends that capability into lightweight task management without pulling users into a separate app.
Competing on Context, Not Complexity
Granola's approach contrasts with dedicated task management tools. Instead of asking users to manually create and assign tasks, the AI extracts them from meeting context automatically. This fits with how small teams and individual contributors actually work: they take notes during meetings, then forget to transfer action items into a proper system.
The company has been steadily building out its AI capabilities. It added custom jargon support to improve transcription accuracy and launched an MCP integration to connect meeting notes with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other AI tools. Those moves positioned Granola as a context layer for AI workflows, not just a note-taking app.
The checklist feature appears to target the same user base: people who live in back-to-back meetings and need a low-friction way to stay on top of commitments without adopting another tool. Whether it's enough to compete with dedicated task managers like Notion or standalone AI assistants depends on how well Granola's AI can consistently extract the right action items without manual cleanup.
For now, the update is live for all Granola users. The company has not announced pricing changes or additional requirements to access the checklist functionality.
