Gather Town Adds Five Community-Requested Objects to Virtual Office Customization

Gather Town Expands Customization with Community Picks

Gather Town has released five new decorative objects for its Gather 2.0 platform, all selected based on community requests. The additions include a campfire, surfboard, pool table, lava lamp, and a plate of coxinha, the Brazilian snack. The objects are available now to all teams using the virtual office platform.

The release continues Gather Town's strategy of responding to user feedback with practical customization options. Teams can now place these objects in desks, offices, and meeting rooms to personalize their virtual workspaces. The objects join an expanding library of decorative and functional items that help remote teams create distinct environments within their digital offices.

The selection reflects Gather Town's global user base. The inclusion of coxinha, a popular Brazilian street food, acknowledges international users who have requested culturally specific items for their spaces. The other objects, from the casual surfboard to the retro lava lamp, offer aesthetic variety for different team cultures and workspace moods.

Building on Recent Customization Updates

The new objects arrive as Gather Town continues to refine its workspace editor. The platform recently added 22 color options for every floor pattern in its Studio Editor, giving teams more control over the look and feel of their virtual offices.

Gather Town has also expanded interactive features in recent months, including animated avatar reactions and interactive whiteboards and board games. These updates suggest the company is balancing aesthetic customization with functional collaboration tools.

The campfire and pool table objects could serve dual purposes. While primarily decorative, they create natural gathering points in virtual spaces where teams can hold informal conversations, similar to how physical offices use break rooms and common areas.

Competing in the Virtual Office Space

Gather Town competes with tools like Slack and Discord for remote team communication, but differentiates itself with spatial audio and visual environments. The platform lets multiple people hold separate conversations in parallel, with users walking their avatars in and out of different discussions.

The focus on community-requested objects signals Gather Town's approach to product development. Rather than pushing features based solely on internal roadmaps, the company appears to be taking cues from actual workspace needs and user preferences.

For teams using Gather 2.0, the new objects are available immediately without requiring upgrades or additional purchases. Users can access them through the platform's object library when editing their spaces.
