Framer has released a new Ticker Effect that overhauls how users build continuous animations on the platform. The update removes duplicate lists and canvas clutter while adding drag support and automatic orientation detection, according to a LinkedIn announcement from the company.
The Ticker Effect enables designers to create scrolling text or image animations that loop continuously, a common pattern for showcasing logos, testimonials, or feature lists. Previously, building these animations in Framer required manual duplication of content and careful canvas management to avoid visual clutter.
CMS Integration and Responsive Controls
The new implementation integrates directly with Framer's CMS, allowing designers to pull dynamic content into ticker animations without duplicating data layers. This means a ticker displaying client logos or team members can update automatically when the underlying CMS collection changes.
Framer also added unique settings per breakpoint, so designers can configure different animation speeds, directions, or pause behaviors for mobile, tablet, and desktop views. The automatic orientation feature detects whether a Stack is horizontal or vertical and adjusts the animation direction accordingly, reducing the need for manual configuration across different layouts.
Drag Support and Canvas Cleanup
Drag support allows users to manually scrub through ticker animations during design, making it easier to preview different states without triggering the full loop. This is particularly useful when fine-tuning timing or spacing between elements.
By eliminating the need for duplicate content lists on the canvas, the update addresses a longstanding pain point for designers working with complex ticker setups. Previously, creating seamless loops often meant duplicating entire Stacks or component instances, which cluttered the layers panel and increased file size.
The Ticker Effect follows recent updates to Framer's animation toolkit, including the Flow Effect for interaction-driven section animations. The company has been steadily expanding its motion design capabilities while maintaining its focus on speed and usability for designers who code minimally or not at all.
Availability
The Ticker Effect is available now to all Framer users. The feature works with any Stack component and supports both text and image content. Designers can access it through the Effects panel when configuring Stack properties.
Framer competes with Webflow and Wix in the visual website builder space, differentiating itself with a design-first interface that appeals to users transitioning from tools like Figma. The platform has been shipping updates at a rapid pace, including recent additions like relative dates in the CMS and URL path translation for multilingual sites.
