Framer Overhauls Content Management With CMS 3.0
Framer has released CMS 3.0, a ground-up redesign of its content management system focused on speed and usability for teams managing large collections. The update, announced on LinkedIn and detailed on the company's updates page, replaces the previous overlay-heavy workflow with a table interface that supports inline editing across all cell types.
The redesign targets a core friction point: the need to open separate overlays to edit most content fields. With CMS 3.0, users can now edit statuses, toggles, references, images, icons, colors, and text directly in the table view. Multi-cell selection and bulk actions are supported, allowing teams to update dozens of items at once without switching contexts.
Keyboard navigation has been rebuilt to match spreadsheet-style workflows. Users can tab between cells, use arrow keys to move across rows and columns, and trigger quick edits without reaching for a mouse. Columns can now be resized, reordered, and customized to fit different workflows, whether managing a blog, product catalog, or help center.
Filtering and search capabilities have been expanded. Teams can apply multiple filters to narrow down items by status, category, or custom fields, then use the search bar to refine results further. Collections can now be organized into folders, a feature likely aimed at agencies and larger teams juggling multiple content types or client projects.
The field management panel has been redesigned with a cleaner layout and more space for configuring field types, validation rules, and default values. Field dividers can now be added with or without titles, making it easier to group related fields visually. The menu for adding new fields has been streamlined, and warnings for fields with validation issues are now more consistent across the interface.
Performance improvements are notable. Framer says bulk editing operations, which previously slowed down as teams selected more items, are now faster. Removing fields that are actively in use, a task that could take several seconds in earlier versions, has been optimized.
The release also fixes several longstanding issues. Editing media fields, which had inconsistencies in how images and files were updated, is now more predictable. Link fields can be edited more reliably in the item overlay. Draft and live statuses, which some users found confusing, now have clearer visual indicators.
Framer's CMS has evolved significantly over the past year. The platform added Markdown support and date variables in recent months, and integrated CMS data into Wireframer, its AI layout generator. These updates position Framer as a more complete alternative to Webflow and Wix for teams that want visual design tools combined with structured content management.
CMS 3.0 is live for all Framer users. The update is particularly relevant for marketing teams, agencies, and content-heavy sites that previously hit scaling limits with the old interface. Framer has published a video walkthrough demonstrating the new features.
The timing aligns with Framer's broader push into the enterprise market. The company raised a Series D round last year, which it said would fund performance improvements and collaboration features. CMS 3.0 delivers on the performance side, and folder organization hints at more team-oriented updates ahead.
