Framer has rolled out Fable 5, positioning it as the most proactive AI model available in the platform. According to the company's internal evaluations, Fable 5 scored 83% overall accuracy, outperforming Opus 4.8 at 77% and leading all tested models on design tasks at 81%.
The new model is designed to go beyond user prompts, automatically setting up design styles, creating reusable elements, and delivering polished first drafts. Framer highlights its strength in original creative work, including shaders and subtle animations, areas where previous models like Opus and Sonnet have shown limitations.
Credit Usage and Positioning
Fable 5 uses twice the credits of GPT 5.5, placing it around 3.3 times the cost of Sonnet 5. The pricing reflects what Framer describes as more ambitious upfront thinking and more refined output. Users can now select Fable 5 from the agent model picker in Framer's interface.
The release comes shortly after Framer upgraded to Sonnet 5, which delivered 90% accuracy at lower credit usage than its predecessor. Sonnet 5 improved layout decisions and visual direction, but Fable 5 appears targeted at users who need more creative autonomy from the AI.
Framer's evaluation framework tests models across several dimensions: accuracy, design quality, and practical efficiency. Fable 5's 81% design score represents a significant jump over previous options, suggesting meaningful improvements in visual decision-making and style consistency.
What Sets Fable 5 Apart
According to Framer, Fable 5 demonstrates notably stronger performance in:
- Original design work: The model generates more creative solutions when starting from scratch rather than iterating on existing designs.
- Shaders and animations: It handles complex visual effects like WebGL shaders and motion design with more nuance than competing models.
- Reusable elements: The AI proactively creates components and design systems that can be applied across a site, reducing manual setup work.
The model's proactive nature means it often extends beyond the literal prompt, inferring design needs and implementing solutions without explicit instruction. This could accelerate workflows for experienced designers but may require adjustment for users accustomed to more literal AI responses.
Framer has been steadily expanding its AI capabilities since launching branching for team redesigns and introducing features like brand guide generation. Fable 5 represents another bet on AI models that anticipate user needs rather than simply executing instructions.
The company did not disclose which underlying architecture powers Fable 5 or whether it represents a proprietary model or a fine-tuned version of an existing foundation model. Framer's focus remains on practical performance in design tasks rather than technical specifications.
Fable 5 is available now to all Framer users through the model selection dropdown in the AI agent interface.
