Databutton's Riff Goes Live With Three-Minute AI App Builder for Business Tools

Databutton's Riff platform went live today with a no-code AI app builder that promises to connect common business tools like HubSpot, Notion, and Google Sheets without requiring developers. The company demonstrated the speed claim with a content brief generator that pulls live SEO data, built in under three minutes.

Build Plan Generation Before Code

Riff approaches app creation differently than traditional no-code platforms. Users describe what they want in plain English, and the system generates a complete build plan showing every component before creating the app. This preview step lets non-technical users see exactly what Riff will build, including which APIs and integrations it plans to use.

The content brief generator example integrated SerpAPI for live search ranking data and People Also Ask questions, plus internal link suggestions, all configured through natural language instructions. Users upload API keys for third-party services, review the automated build plan, and deploy.

The launch follows Databutton's rebrand to Riff earlier this year, when the company pivoted from general-purpose AI coding toward enterprise-focused app building. The platform now emphasizes governance and IT control alongside speed, positioning itself for workplace deployment rather than solo developers.

Native Business Tool Integrations

Riff's integration layer connects directly to workplace software stacks. The platform supports HubSpot for CRM workflows, Notion for documentation and databases, Google Sheets for data manipulation, and other common business tools. This lets teams build custom internal tools that bridge multiple systems without middleware or custom API work.

The three-minute build time claim applies to relatively straightforward use cases like the content brief generator. More complex apps with multiple data sources, conditional logic, or custom UI requirements will take longer. But the automated component matching and pre-built integrations remove much of the setup friction that typically extends development timelines.

Databutton is running a launch promotion: users who create and deploy their first app before November 1, 2025 enter a drawing for unlimited Riff credits through the end of 2025. The company has not disclosed standard pricing tiers or credit costs.

Competing in Crowded AI Builder Space

Riff enters a market with established players like Zapier, Make, and Glide, plus newer AI-first tools like Lovable and Bolt. The differentiator appears to be the build plan preview system and the focus on governed, IT-approved deployments rather than shadow IT.

The platform's evolution from Databutton to Riff reflects broader industry movement toward AI-assisted development that requires less technical knowledge. Whether the three-minute promise holds for production-grade apps at scale remains to be tested by early enterprise adopters.
