Bolt has removed a small but persistent bottleneck from AI-assisted app development. With Prompt queueing, users can write their next instruction while a build is still running, then let Bolt submit it automatically when the current task finishes.
The feature is available in every Bolt.new project, according to the company’s LinkedIn announcement and official blog post. It also works in multiplayer projects, where collaborators see the same queue and can manage upcoming prompts together in real time.
How the prompt queue works
Previously, a user who thought of a follow-up instruction during a build had to hold onto it, record it elsewhere, or wait for Bolt to finish before entering it. Prompt queueing turns that idle period into preparation time. The user can type the next request immediately, and Bolt holds it until the active build completes.
Queued prompts can be managed before they run. Users and their collaborators can:
- Edit a prompt to clarify or expand the instruction
- Reorder prompts to change which task runs next
- Delete an instruction that is no longer needed
- Watch the same queue across a multiplayer project
Once the current build finishes, the next prompt is sent automatically. The company says queued prompts run in order, giving teams a lightweight way to sequence changes without repeatedly returning to the prompt box.
That matters because app-building sessions rarely follow a single, neatly contained instruction. A founder might ask Bolt to create an onboarding flow, then realize the dashboard needs a different navigation structure and the sign-up form requires another field. Queueing allows those ideas to be captured while they are fresh, without interrupting the task already underway.
A collaboration feature disguised as a speed upgrade
The multiplayer support may be more consequential than the time saving. Everyone invited to a project sees the shared queue, rather than maintaining separate notes or sending instructions through a side channel. A teammate can revise an ambiguous request, move an urgent fix ahead of a cosmetic change, or remove duplicated work before Bolt processes it.
There are still practical reasons to supervise a long sequence. Each completed change can affect the assumptions behind later prompts, particularly when work touches the same interface, database structure, or application logic. Queueing makes it easier to line up work, but the announcement does not indicate that Bolt validates whether a later prompt remains appropriate after an earlier build changes the project.
The release fits a broader effort to reduce friction between an idea and an executable instruction. Bolt previously introduced Voice dictation to turn spoken ideas into app prompts, while its reusable Skills can trigger established workflows from a prompt. Prompt queueing addresses the next constraint in that workflow: users can now capture multiple instructions without waiting for the agent to become available after each one.
For small teams, the immediate benefit is less downtime and fewer lost thoughts. For collaborative projects, the queue also creates a visible record of what Bolt will be asked to do next, giving participants an opportunity to review the sequence before changes begin.
Frequently asked questions
What is Bolt Prompt queueing?
Bolt Prompt queueing lets users write and line up additional prompts while Bolt is completing the current build. The next queued prompt is sent automatically after the active task finishes.
Can teammates manage queued prompts?
Yes. In multiplayer projects, teammates see the same queue in real time. They can edit, reorder, or delete queued prompts before Bolt sends them.
When is Prompt queueing available?
Bolt announced that Prompt queueing is live in every project. The company did not specify separate plan requirements or additional pricing for the feature.
