Bolt Integrates GPT-5 for Enhanced Design and Complex Coding Tasks

Bolt Adds GPT-5 to Its AI Development Platform

Bolt has integrated OpenAI's GPT-5 model into its platform, marking one of the first production implementations of the newly released language model. The company announced on LinkedIn that the model showed significant improvements in design workflows and complex coding tasks during internal testing.

The update arrives as Bolt continues to expand its model offerings, following its recent integration of Claude Sonnet 4 with 1 million token context windows. The platform now provides developers access to multiple frontier models within a single interface for building full-stack web applications.

What GPT-5 Brings to the Platform

According to Bolt's testing, GPT-5 delivers improvements in two core areas: visual design generation and handling complex coding logic. The model will power multiple components of Bolt's agent system, though the company has not disclosed specific implementation details or performance benchmarks.

The rollout is gradual. Bolt is making GPT-5 available to all users as OpenAI's rate limits allow, a common approach when new models launch with constrained capacity. Users can select GPT-5 alongside existing options including Claude, GPT-4, and other models already integrated into the platform.

Context for Builder Tools

Bolt operates in the increasingly competitive AI coding assistant market alongside tools like Cursor, Windsurf, and Lovable. The platform differentiates itself through instant preview environments and deployment integrations with Netlify and Supabase.

The addition of GPT-5 gives Bolt users another model option for different use cases. Design-heavy projects might benefit from GPT-5's reported visual capabilities, while complex backend logic could leverage its improved reasoning. Developers can switch between models mid-project depending on the task.

Rollout Timeline and Access

Bolt has not provided a specific timeline for when GPT-5 will be universally available across all user accounts. The phased approach depends on OpenAI's API capacity and rate limit adjustments. Pro and Team tier subscribers will likely receive priority access as the rollout progresses.

The company continues to ship model updates at a rapid pace. In recent months, Bolt added Claude Opus 4.6, expanded its Cloud platform, and introduced Team Templates for reusable project structures. The GPT-5 integration extends this pattern of quickly adopting new AI capabilities as they become available.

Users can access GPT-5 through Bolt's model selector once enabled for their account. The feature works across all project types on the platform, from simple landing pages to full-stack applications with database integration.
