Deploy Cursor Origin repositories with Vercel in public beta

Vercel is opening its deployment pipeline to a new kind of source repository. Pro customers can now connect repositories created with Cursor Origin, automatically turning pull requests into Preview deployments and merged changes into Production deployments.

The integration, detailed in a brief changelog announcement, is available in public beta. It extends Vercel’s familiar Git-driven deployment model to Origin, giving teams using Cursor’s development environment a more direct route from generated or edited code to a live application.

How the deployment workflow works

Once an Origin repository is connected to a Vercel project, deployment activity follows two core repository events:

  • Opening or updating a pull request automatically generates a Vercel Preview deployment.
  • Merging the pull request triggers a Production deployment.

That distinction matters for small development teams. Preview deployments provide a separate URL where collaborators can inspect a proposed change before it reaches the production site. The merge event then acts as the release control, preserving a review step between code creation and the live deployment.

Vercel says customers can establish the connection through either Team settings or Project settings. Team-level configuration may be useful for organisations that expect to connect multiple projects, while project settings offer a narrower route for individual applications. Vercel has not published additional setup requirements, repository restrictions or migration guidance in the announcement.

The update does not replace pull requests with an editor-specific deployment command. Instead, it brings Origin repositories into the event-driven workflow Vercel already uses for source control integrations. Teams can continue to use repository activity as the record of what was previewed, reviewed and ultimately shipped.

Why the integration is useful

AI coding tools have shortened the time required to produce a working feature, but deployment and review remain separate operational steps. A developer may generate or modify code quickly, then still need to move it into a supported repository, configure a deployment target and provide reviewers with a testable build.

Connecting Origin directly reduces some of that handoff. It is particularly relevant to small teams where one person may be responsible for prompting an AI coding tool, reviewing the resulting code and managing the deployment. Automatic previews also give non-technical collaborators a way to test the output in a browser without running the project locally.

There is a governance benefit as well. Automatically deploying pull requests encourages teams to review an actual build rather than relying only on a code diff or editor preview. For customer-facing sites and internal applications, that can expose layout problems, missing environment configuration or unexpected runtime behaviour before a merge triggers production.

The release also fits Vercel’s broader effort to become infrastructure for AI-assisted software development. That work spans model access and agent tooling, including its recent addition of ACP-compatible harnesses to the AI SDK Harness Layer. Origin support addresses another part of the stack, connecting where code is created and stored with where it is built and hosted.

Public beta status means teams should still evaluate the integration carefully before making it central to a production process. Vercel’s announcement does not specify beta limitations, support commitments or a general-availability timetable. It also does not disclose separate pricing for the integration, beyond stating that it is available to Pro customers.
