OpenClaw Ships Free Model Access and Developer Tools
OpenClaw released version 2026.1.30 with shell completion support for major terminals and free access to Kimi's K2.5 and Coding models, according to a GitHub release. The update includes significant improvements to Telegram integration and community-contributed fixes across multiple messaging platforms.
The personal AI agent, which runs locally and operates through chat apps, continues its rapid development pace with dozens of updates since surpassing React in GitHub stars earlier this year.
Shell Completion and Free Model Tier
The release adds native shell completion for Zsh, Bash, and PowerShell through a new CLI completion command. Developers can now get autocomplete suggestions for OpenClaw commands directly in their terminal environment.
More significantly, OpenClaw integrated Kimi K2.5 and Kimi Coding as free model options. Users can now run their local AI agent without incurring API costs by selecting either of these models. The move follows OpenClaw's pattern of expanding model provider options; the team recently added Cloudflare AI Gateway and Moonshot provider support.
MiniMax OAuth integration simplifies authentication for users of that model provider. Rather than managing API keys manually, users can now authorize access through a standard OAuth flow.
Telegram Overhaul and Platform Fixes
Telegram integration received six distinct fixes addressing threading, HTML rendering, and core functionality issues. The messaging platform has become a primary interface for many OpenClaw users running automated workflows and agent interactions.
Community contributors submitted patches for LINE, BlueBubbles, routing logic, security hardening, and OAuth implementations. The release notes credit multiple external developers for these improvements, continuing OpenClaw's open-source development model.
Security and Stability Focus
The update arrives weeks after OpenClaw patched critical security flaws in version 2026.2.1 and integrated VirusTotal scanning for ClawHub skills. The emphasis on community-contributed security fixes in this release suggests the project continues prioritizing secure-by-default operation for local AI agents.
OpenClaw positions itself as an alternative to cloud-based AI assistants by running entirely on user hardware and interfacing through existing chat applications. The project maintains a public roadmap and ships updates at an unusually high frequency for open-source infrastructure software.
Version 2026.1.30 is available now through the OpenClaw GitHub repository. Users running previous versions should review the release notes for breaking changes before upgrading.
