Netlify has launched an official plugin in the Cursor marketplace, bringing platform-specific context directly into the AI-powered code editor. The integration gives developers using Cursor access to accurate, maintained documentation for Netlify's full stack without leaving their IDE.
The plugin includes 13 skills and 27 rules maintained by Netlify and released as open source. It covers core Netlify capabilities including serverless functions, edge functions, Blobs storage, Database, Image CDN, forms, caching, the AI Gateway, CLI workflows, and deployment processes.
Direct Integration With AI Agents
Cursor users working on Netlify projects can now query the agent about platform-specific features and get responses grounded in current Netlify APIs and best practices. The plugin ensures agents have up-to-date context when generating code that uses Netlify services, reducing the friction developers face when switching between documentation, terminal commands, and their editor.
The timing follows Netlify's recent focus on AI-native development workflows. The company launched Netlify Agent Runners in April, positioning itself as infrastructure built for agent-generated code. With the Cursor plugin, Netlify extends that strategy upstream into the coding environment itself.
What Developers Get
The plugin provides structured knowledge across Netlify's feature set. For functions, it includes context on syntax, environment variables, and event handling. For edge functions, it covers global deployment patterns and runtime constraints. Database integration details help agents generate queries and schema migrations. The Image CDN section addresses transformation parameters and caching behavior.
Because the plugin is open source and maintained by Netlify, it stays synchronized with platform updates. Developers using Cursor no longer need to manually verify whether documentation reflects the current API surface or check changelogs for breaking changes.
Broader Editor Strategy
The Cursor marketplace debut positions Netlify alongside other infrastructure providers offering editor-native integrations for AI coding assistants. It also complements Netlify's existing presence in Stripe Projects, announced in April, which embeds Netlify deploys directly in Stripe's dashboard for payment-focused apps.
Developers can install the Netlify plugin from the Cursor marketplace or access the open-source repository to review the rules and skills that power agent interactions.
