Intercom Transforms Fin Into Complete Observability System With New Monitors and Recommendations

Intercom Expands Fin's Observability Capabilities

Intercom has transformed its Fin Analyze product into a comprehensive observability system, adding new Monitors and Recommendations features to help support teams understand and improve their AI agent performance. The announcement came during a keynote presentation at Fin Labs in Paris, delivered by Chief Product Officer Paul Adams.

The expansion builds on Intercom's existing Insights capability, creating what the company describes as a complete system for measuring and optimizing customer experience through AI-powered support. The update addresses a growing need among companies deploying AI agents: the ability to track performance, identify issues, and take action at scale.

New Monitors Feature Tracks AI Agent Performance

The newly launched Monitors feature gives teams automated alerts when their AI agents deviate from expected performance benchmarks. Rather than requiring manual review of conversations, Monitors continuously evaluate metrics like resolution rates, customer satisfaction scores, and response accuracy.

Teams can configure custom thresholds based on their specific service level agreements and business requirements. When a Monitor detects an anomaly, such as a sudden drop in resolution rate or an increase in customer escalations, it surfaces the issue to support leaders immediately.

This proactive approach marks a shift from reactive quality management. As we previously covered, the Monitors capability represents Intercom's response to the challenges of managing AI agents that handle thousands of conversations simultaneously.

Recommendations Guide Continuous Improvement

Alongside Monitors, Intercom introduced Recommendations, a feature that suggests specific actions to improve AI agent performance. Rather than simply flagging problems, Recommendations analyzes patterns across conversations and proposes concrete changes to knowledge base content, conversation workflows, or agent behavior.

For example, if Monitors detect customers frequently asking follow-up questions about a specific topic, Recommendations might suggest updating the relevant help article with more detail or adjusting how the AI agent explains that concept. The feature aims to close the loop between observation and action, helping teams systematically refine their AI agent over time.

The combination of Insights, Monitors, and Recommendations creates a feedback cycle: Insights reveal what's happening, Monitors alert teams to problems, and Recommendations guide improvements. This integrated approach addresses what Intercom sees as a critical gap in the current generation of AI support tools, where many companies deploy agents but lack structured methods for measuring and improving their performance.

Meeting the Scale Challenge of AI Support

The observability system launch comes as more companies report high AI resolution rates but struggle with the operational complexity of managing autonomous agents. Some Intercom customers now achieve 80 percent AI resolution, but maintaining quality at that volume requires new tooling.

Unlike traditional support systems where human agents naturally provide qualitative feedback about recurring issues, AI agents can silently perpetuate problems across thousands of conversations. Intercom's observability system attempts to make the invisible visible, surfacing patterns that would otherwise require manual analysis of massive conversation datasets.

The announcement positions Intercom's Fin platform as more than just an AI agent, framing it as a complete system for AI-powered customer service. As companies increasingly deploy autonomous agents, the ability to measure, monitor, and improve their performance becomes as critical as the underlying AI capabilities themselves.

Intercom has not disclosed specific pricing for the new observability features or whether they're available across all Fin tiers. The company directed interested customers to watch the full keynote presentation for additional technical details about how the system works in practice.
