Intercom Launches Simulations in Fin to Test AI Agent Responses at Scale

Intercom has introduced Simulations in Fin, a new testing capability designed to help support teams validate AI agent behavior before deploying automation at scale.

The feature allows teams to run automated tests that verify how Fin, Intercom's AI agent, responds across different customer scenarios. Teams can simulate various support situations and confirm the agent behaves as intended without risking live customer interactions.

Building Confidence in AI Automation

Support leaders adopting AI agents face a common challenge: how to trust that automated responses will handle edge cases, brand voice, and complex scenarios correctly. Simulations addresses this by providing a structured testing environment.

Teams can create test scenarios that mirror real customer interactions, from simple product questions to nuanced troubleshooting requests. The system then runs these simulations and reports how Fin would respond in each case, letting teams catch potential issues before customers encounter them.

Intercom product manager Sze demonstrated the feature in a video walkthrough, showing how support teams can configure test cases and review results. The testing framework appears designed for ongoing validation, not just one-time setup, suggesting teams can continually verify agent performance as they update knowledge bases or modify response logic.

This release continues Intercom's focus on making AI agents more controllable and predictable for support teams. The company has recently added pronunciation rules to Fin Voice Agent and simplified Shopify integration to under two minutes, both aimed at reducing friction in AI adoption.

Testing as a Deployment Requirement

The introduction of formal testing tools for AI agents reflects a broader shift in how companies approach conversational automation. Early chatbot implementations often launched with minimal validation, leading to public failures when bots mishandled customer requests. Simulations positions testing as a standard practice rather than an optional step.

For teams using platforms like Voiceflow or Crisp for customer support automation, this approach may set expectations for how thoroughly AI agents should be validated before going live. The feature suggests a maturation of the AI customer service market, where testing infrastructure becomes as important as the underlying language models.

Intercom has not disclosed pricing details for Simulations or whether it's available across all Fin tiers. Teams interested in the feature can access the full demonstration video through Intercom's LinkedIn announcement or reach out to their account representatives for availability information.
