Screen-First Planning for No-Code Builders
Glide announced on LinkedIn an upgrade to its Planning Agent that surfaces interactive app screens before development starts. The change lets builders preview screen-by-screen mockups, review the structure in detail, and make adjustments to the plan before committing resources to a build.
The improvement addresses a common friction point in AI-assisted app development: understanding what the agent intends to build before it builds. By surfacing visual previews upfront, Glide gives users a chance to catch misalignments early and steer the agent toward their actual requirements.
The upgrade is part of Glide's broader push to integrate AI more deeply into its no-code platform. Earlier updates introduced AI-powered app building with deep spreadsheet analysis, allowing the platform to interpret data structure and suggest app designs automatically. The new preview capability extends that workflow by making the agent's output visible and editable before any actual build happens.
How the Preview Feature Works
When users describe an app concept or upload a data source, the Planning Agent now generates a set of interactive screens that represent the intended app structure. These previews show navigation flows, data relationships, and UI layouts in a format that resembles the final product.
Builders can click through the screens, review the design decisions the agent made, and request changes before moving forward. This iteration happens in the planning phase, reducing the cost of rework once development begins.
The feature appears designed for teams that need approval cycles or want to validate assumptions before investing time in customization. By externalizing the agent's reasoning as visual output, Glide creates a shared artifact that non-technical stakeholders can evaluate without needing to understand the underlying data model or workflow logic.
Waitlist Access Only
The upgraded Planning Agent is part of what Glide calls "the new Glide," which remains in limited release. Interested users can join a waitlist at glideapps.com/new to request access. The company has not announced a general availability date.
Glide continues to position itself as a platform for turning spreadsheets into operational apps without code, competing with tools like Softr, Noloco, and Airtable's interface builder. The Planning Agent upgrade reflects a broader industry trend toward AI-assisted design tools that generate output users can inspect and refine, rather than black-box systems that produce finished products with no intermediate review.
For now, access remains controlled as Glide iterates on the feature based on early user feedback.
