Glide Adds AI Assistant to Documentation for Faster Developer Support

Glide Adds AI Assistant to Documentation for Faster Developer Support

Glide has launched an AI assistant embedded directly in its documentation portal, allowing users to ask questions and receive answers sourced from the platform's knowledge base. The assistant also returns links to the relevant documentation pages, giving users a quick path to verify details and explore further.

The feature announced on LinkedIn represents a shift in how no-code platforms handle developer support. Rather than requiring users to manually search through articles or wait for human responses in community forums, the AI assistant browses Glide's documentation in real time and surfaces the most relevant resources.

Glide positions the update as an enhancement to what it calls its "world-class documentation," inviting users to test the assistant at docs.glideapps.com and provide feedback on accuracy and usefulness.

How the AI Assistant Works

The assistant operates as a conversational interface within the documentation site. Users type questions in natural language, and the AI scans Glide's documentation database to identify the most relevant information. Responses include both a direct answer and hyperlinks to the source documentation pages.

This design addresses a common friction point in technical documentation: users often struggle to phrase search queries that match the exact terminology used in help articles. By accepting natural language questions, the assistant can interpret intent and map it to the correct resources, even when the user's phrasing differs from the official documentation.

The inclusion of source links is a notable choice. It allows users to verify the assistant's interpretation, check for nuance the summary may have missed, and explore related topics in the full article. This transparency is particularly valuable for developers building production applications, where details matter.

Context in a Crowded No-Code Market

Glide competes in a space where documentation quality directly impacts user retention. Platforms like Bubble, Webflow, and Softr invest heavily in learning resources, recognizing that no-code tools succeed when users can solve problems independently.

The company has been steadily improving its developer experience. Recent updates include SheetSync technology for real-time spreadsheet synchronization and a Planning Agent that previews screens before build. The AI documentation assistant fits this pattern, reducing the time users spend hunting for answers.

Other no-code platforms have experimented with AI-assisted support, but most implementations route users to chatbots that handle general inquiries rather than documentation-specific searches. Glide's approach is narrower in scope but potentially more accurate, since the assistant is limited to a curated knowledge base rather than general web information.

What This Means for Glide Users

For builders working on deadline, the assistant could cut significant time from the troubleshooting process. Instead of scanning multiple articles or waiting for community responses, users can ask specific questions and receive targeted guidance immediately.

The feature may also benefit Glide's support team by deflecting repetitive questions. If the assistant successfully handles common queries about data sources, workflows, or component configuration, human support can focus on edge cases and complex issues that require deeper investigation.

Glide has not disclosed the underlying model powering the assistant or whether it uses retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to ensure accuracy. The company is soliciting feedback, suggesting the feature may still be in an experimental phase where user input will shape refinements.

The documentation site is available at docs.glideapps.com. Glide has not announced whether the AI assistant will remain free for all users or become a paid feature in the future.
