MasterClass Adopts ElevenLabs Voice AI for Real-Time Instructor Coaching

MasterClass has launched MasterClass On Call, a new learning experience that uses AI-powered voice conversations to deliver coaching from digital versions of celebrity instructors including Gordon Ramsay, Mark Cuban, and Chris Voss. The platform relies on voice technology from ElevenLabs to enable real-time, spoken interactions with AI instructors.

According to a LinkedIn post from ElevenLabs, more than 75 percent of MasterClass On Call users now engage through voice rather than text-based chat. The shift underscores growing user preference for conversational interfaces in educational technology.

Voice Quality and Instructor Personality

MasterClass selected ElevenLabs after evaluating how well the platform could replicate instructor characteristics through voice. Mandar Bapaye, chief product officer and chief technology officer at MasterClass, said the company prioritized pacing, tone, and empathy in AI-generated speech.

"It is extremely critical for us to make sure that the personality of our instructors comes through in the voice," Bapaye said in a statement. "That means the pacing and tone needs to be right, and all of our instructor AIs should feel empathetic during the conversations. ElevenLabs delivered on all these attributes way above everyone else."

The emphasis on vocal nuance reflects MasterClass's brand positioning around celebrity educators. Users expect AI versions of high-profile instructors to sound authentic, not generic.

Expanding Voice AI in Education and Enterprise

The MasterClass deployment adds to a growing list of enterprise use cases for ElevenLabs. The company has recently partnered with Revolut for customer support agents, Klarna to reduce resolution times, and Deutsche Telekom for telephony applications, as previously reported.

ElevenLabs has also expanded infrastructure options for regulated industries. In April, the company announced support for on-premise and on-device deployments, targeting government and enterprise customers with strict data residency requirements.

While MasterClass has not disclosed technical implementation details, the use case suggests voice AI is moving beyond customer service and call center automation into interactive learning environments. The company's reported 75 percent voice adoption rate indicates users find spoken interaction more engaging than text when seeking coaching or instruction.

ElevenLabs continues to compete with other voice AI providers including OpenAI, Google, and Amazon in a market where quality, latency, and emotional expressiveness differentiate offerings. The MasterClass endorsement positions ElevenLabs as a preferred solution for applications requiring high-fidelity voice cloning and conversational naturalness.
