ElevenLabs Opens Music v2 API for Developers to Embed AI Music Generation

ElevenLabs announced that its Music v2 model is now available via ElevenAPI, enabling developers to embed AI-generated music creation and editing capabilities directly into their products and workflows.

The API launch follows the company's May release of Music v2, which delivered improved vocal quality and a 50% price reduction for standalone music generation. Opening the model to API access marks a strategic shift from consumer-facing features to developer infrastructure.

API Integration for Production Workflows

Music v2 via ElevenAPI allows developers to programmatically generate and edit music without routing users to ElevenLabs' web interface. According to the company's documentation changelog, the API integration enables music generation to be embedded as a native feature within third-party applications.

Developers can trigger music creation based on user actions, automate soundtrack generation for video editing tools, or build custom music libraries that generate on-demand. The API supports the same quality improvements introduced in Music v2, including better vocal clarity and more coherent musical structure.

ElevenLabs has steadily expanded its API offerings beyond text-to-speech. The company already provides API access to its voice cloning, dubbing, and speech-to-text models. Adding music generation to the API portfolio positions ElevenLabs as an end-to-end audio infrastructure provider for developers building content creation platforms.

Developer Adoption and Use Cases

The Music v2 API targets developers building video editing software, podcast production tools, game engines, and marketing automation platforms. By embedding music generation, these applications can offer users dynamic soundtracks without requiring third-party licensing or manual composition.

ElevenLabs has not disclosed pricing specifics for Music v2 API access, but the company typically charges per-second of generated audio. The 50% price reduction applied to Music v2's consumer pricing may carry over to API rates, making programmatic music generation more economical for high-volume applications.

The API launch comes as ElevenLabs crosses $500M ARR and expands partnerships with governments and enterprises. The company recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the UK Government to bring voice AI to public services, signaling a push into institutional markets where API access is essential for integration.

Competing in the AI Audio API Market

ElevenLabs faces competition from other AI audio providers offering API access, including Stability Audio and Suno, though neither has yet released a full-featured music API. OpenAI and Google's Gemini offer audio generation capabilities through their respective APIs, but neither focuses exclusively on music production.

ElevenLabs' advantage lies in its specialized audio infrastructure and developer tools. The company provides SDKs for multiple languages, detailed documentation, and dedicated support for API customers. By opening Music v2 to programmatic access, ElevenLabs extends its reach beyond direct users to developers building the next generation of content tools.
