Descript Now Works Inside Claude and ChatGPT for One-Click Video Creation

Descript can now run inside Claude and ChatGPT, allowing users to convert existing content into videos without leaving their AI workspace. The integration addresses a common workflow friction: the material for a video often already exists in a recording, document, or chat thread, but producing it requires opening a separate tool and manually transferring assets.

The company announced the feature on LinkedIn, positioning it as a way to "make video without leaving Claude or ChatGPT." In a live session walkthrough, Descript demonstrated setup and showed how users can hand off video production tasks directly from their AI assistant, letting automated processes run in the background while they continue other work.

How the integration works

Once configured, users can prompt Claude or ChatGPT to create videos from transcripts, call recordings, or text briefs without manually uploading files to Descript's main editor. The AI assistant routes instructions to Descript's processing engine, which handles transcription, editing, and clip generation. Users receive finished videos or social clips back in their chat interface.

The integration relies on Descript's existing transcription and AI editing capabilities, including tools like Underlord, which recently gained memory features that retain editing preferences across projects. By embedding these functions in Claude and ChatGPT, Descript extends its reach beyond dedicated video editors to knowledge workers who treat chat interfaces as their primary workspace.

Practical use cases

The most obvious application is repurposing Zoom or Google Meet recordings. A user can upload a call transcript to Claude, ask it to identify key moments, then instruct Descript to generate short clips for social media or internal review. Similarly, long-form content like webinars or training sessions can be broken into digestible segments without manual timeline scrubbing.

Another scenario involves drafting video scripts in ChatGPT and immediately converting them to narrated videos using Descript's AI voiceover tools. This mirrors workflows already common with ElevenLabs integrations but keeps the entire pipeline inside a single chat thread.

Descript also highlighted asynchronous production in its announcement. Users can queue multiple video jobs, continue working in Claude or ChatGPT, and retrieve finished outputs later. This matters for teams managing high volumes of content who can't afford to babysit rendering processes.

Where this fits in Descript's roadmap

Descript has spent the past year focusing on AI-native editing workflows. Recent updates include post-recording lighting correction, optional jump cuts, and Claude Fable 5 integration for video-aware editing. The Claude and ChatGPT integration extends that trajectory by removing the need to open Descript at all for straightforward tasks.

It also reflects broader competition in AI-assisted content creation. Tools like Cursor and Windsurf have shown that embedding production tools directly in AI chat interfaces reduces friction enough to change user behavior. Descript appears to be applying the same logic to video editing.

The feature is available now. Setup instructions were shown in the LinkedIn session but have not yet been published in Descript's official changelog. Users will need active Descript accounts and access to Claude or ChatGPT's integration ecosystem to enable the functionality.
