Buildship Launches Automated Workflow to Scrape Reddit and X for Competitor Intelligence

Competitive Intelligence on Autopilot

Buildship announced on LinkedIn a new workflow template that automates competitive research by scraping Reddit and X for mentions of competitors and relevant keywords. The workflow searches across blogs, tweets, comments, and reviews to identify what users love or hate about competing products, then compiles the findings into a structured report delivered directly to email.

The automation targets product teams and founders who need to track competitor sentiment without manual monitoring. By automatically extracting insights from top posts and comments, the workflow aims to feed product roadmaps with real user feedback from public conversations.

How the Workflow Operates

The workflow leverages Buildship's Reddit scraper node, introduced in June, which supports queries, subreddit filtering, post limits, sorting options, and time filters. Users configure search parameters for competitor names or industry keywords, and the system retrieves matching discussions from both Reddit and X.

Once data is collected, the workflow processes top posts and comments to extract sentiment and key themes. The output is formatted into a report that includes links to original discussions, making it easy to verify insights or dive deeper into specific threads. Reports land in the user's inbox on a schedule they define.

The workflow is available as a remix template, meaning users can clone it directly into their Buildship account and customize the search parameters, data sources, and delivery format without building from scratch.

Use Cases Beyond Product Development

While the primary use case targets product roadmap planning, the workflow applies to several other scenarios. Marketing teams can track brand mentions and customer pain points to inform messaging. Support teams can identify recurring issues before they escalate. Sales teams can monitor conversations about competitors to refine positioning.

The ability to combine Reddit and X data in a single workflow gives teams a broader view of public sentiment than monitoring a single platform. Reddit discussions tend to surface detailed technical feedback and feature requests, while X often captures real-time reactions and broader trends.

Buildship's approach fits into a larger trend of no-code platforms adding research and intelligence capabilities. Similar tools like Make and n8n offer social media monitoring, but typically require users to configure API calls and data parsing manually. Buildship's template handles those steps out of the box.

Availability and Access

The workflow is live and accessible through the Buildship template library. Users on any Buildship plan can remix the template, though execution limits and scheduling frequency depend on the subscription tier. The platform offers a free tier for testing workflows before committing to a paid plan.

Buildship continues to expand its library of pre-built workflows, recently launching tools for converting blog posts to social content and shipping enterprise features like two-way GitHub sync. The competitor intelligence workflow represents another step toward making complex automation accessible to teams without dedicated engineering resources.
