Bolt Launches V2 With Claude Code Integration and Built-In Backend Infrastructure

Bolt Repositions as Production-Ready Development Platform

Bolt has released v2 of its AI-powered development platform, introducing what the company calls professional-grade infrastructure for what it terms "vibe coding." The update centers on two main additions: integration with advanced coding agents including Claude Code and Codex, and a built-in backend that bundles hosting, database, and storage capabilities.

The release, announced on LinkedIn by co-founder Eric Simons, positions the platform as a solution for developers who want to prototype and ship without managing infrastructure setup. According to Simons, the update addresses common development bottlenecks including error loops and configuration complexity.

Agent Integration and Infrastructure Stack

The platform now supports Claude Code and Codex as coding agents, giving developers access to what Bolt describes as state-of-the-art code generation models. These agents handle the technical implementation of prompts, converting natural language descriptions into functional code.

The built-in backend represents a more significant architectural shift. Rather than requiring developers to configure separate hosting services, databases, and storage solutions, Bolt now provides these components as part of the platform. This approach mirrors the strategy of tools like Lovable and Replit, which have also moved toward integrated deployment environments.

Bolt's infrastructure includes:

  • Managed hosting for web and mobile applications
  • Database provisioning and management
  • File storage systems
  • Deployment pipelines

The company claims the integrated approach eliminates the setup steps that typically precede development work, particularly for teams that prototype frequently or maintain multiple projects.

Market Position and Competition

Bolt operates in an increasingly competitive space. Cursor, Windsurf, and v0 have established positions as AI-first development tools, while platforms like Bubble and Webflow serve the no-code market with more visual approaches.

The v2 release follows Bolt's introduction of a Pro tier combining AI agents with enterprise features. The company has also recently launched design system agents and connector features that integrate with tools like Miro and team knowledge bases.

Bolt positions itself specifically around "vibe coding," a term referring to rapid, iterative development where developers describe what they want and AI handles implementation details. This workflow differs from traditional IDEs where developers write code directly, and from pure no-code tools where users manipulate visual components.

Technical Implementation

While Bolt has not published detailed technical documentation for v2, the backend infrastructure likely builds on existing cloud providers rather than representing a fully proprietary stack. The company's emphasis on eliminating "setup nightmares" suggests automated provisioning of resources like databases and storage buckets, along with simplified deployment configurations.

The integration of multiple coding agents gives developers model choice, similar to how OpenClaw and other AI development tools allow switching between different language models depending on the task. Claude Code, built on Anthropic's Claude models, has shown particular strength in code generation and debugging tasks.

Developers interested in v2 can access the platform at bolt.new. The company has not disclosed pricing changes associated with the backend infrastructure additions, though the Pro tier announced earlier provides enterprise features including security scanning and admin controls for teams.
