Beehiiv has released Automations v4, a significant expansion of its automation capabilities that introduces native A/B testing, multi-path branching, and deeper analytics to its newsletter platform.
The update, announced on LinkedIn by CEO Tyler Denk, positions the platform to compete more directly with dedicated marketing automation tools by consolidating features that previously required multiple systems.
Testing at Scale
The centerpiece of v4 is built-in A/B testing for automated email sequences. Publishers can now test subject lines, content variations, and send times within their automation workflows, with the system automatically routing subscribers to winning variants. This removes a common friction point for newsletter operators who previously needed to manually segment audiences or use external tools.
Random cohort branching adds another testing dimension, letting creators split audiences into control and test groups directly within automation flows. Combined with the new multi-split branch feature, publishers can design complex experiments that route subscribers through different paths based on behavior or random assignment.
Workflow Flexibility
Beehiiv has rebuilt the automation canvas with drag-and-drop functionality and bulk actions. The interface now supports reconnecting branches mid-flow, a technical improvement that prevents publishers from having to rebuild entire sequences when testing new paths or fixing broken logic.
The platform has also expanded its trigger library, though specific new triggers were not detailed in the announcement. Triggers determine what actions kick off an automation, such as a new subscription, a link click, or a tag change.
Analytics and Visibility
Advanced analytics in v4 provide what Beehiiv calls "true end-to-end visibility" into automation performance. Publishers can now track subscriber movement through complex workflows, identify drop-off points, and measure the effectiveness of different branches within a single view.
This addresses a common blindspot in newsletter automation, where creators often struggled to understand why certain sequences underperformed or where subscribers stalled in multi-step flows.
Platform Context
The release continues Beehiiv's pattern of aggressive feature expansion. The company recently appointed former Calendly executive Emilie Moy as its first CMO and has been steadily adding capabilities that overlap with tools like Mailchimp and ConvertKit.
Automations v4 is available now to Beehiiv users. The company has not specified whether all features are available across all pricing tiers or if some capabilities are restricted to higher-tier plans.
