Wix announced its partnership with OpenAI as part of the Codex Enterprise launch, introducing a dedicated plugin that lets AI agents build and deploy complete, operational businesses from natural language prompts.
The integration centers on Wix Headless, the company's API-first platform. Through a Model Context Protocol (MCP) connection to OpenAI, Codex users can now prompt an AI agent to generate not just a website design, but a live business with functioning stores, booking systems, payment processing, events infrastructure, and CRM. According to Wix, the entire stack goes live from a single prompt.
What Codex users get
The partnership gives Codex Enterprise users direct access to Wix's full business backend. That means:
- E-commerce stores with inventory and checkout
- Booking and scheduling systems for service businesses
- Event management and ticketing
- Payment processing through integrated gateways
- CRM and customer data infrastructure
All of this is managed at the infrastructure level by Wix Headless, which handles compliance, payments liability, and data regulations. The goal, as Wix frames it, is to let AI agents operate in production environments without developers needing to manually configure backends or worry about regulatory overhead.
"With Wix Headless, an AI agent doesn't just generate a storefront, it turns it into a fully functional and sustainable business," said Shahar Talmi, GM of Developer Platform at Wix, in the company's LinkedIn announcement.

Why Wix Headless matters here
Wix Headless is the company's composable platform layer, separate from its traditional drag-and-drop website builder. It exposes Wix's business logic and infrastructure through APIs, making it possible for developers and now AI agents to build on top without touching the visual editor.
The MCP integration is key. MCP, or Model Context Protocol, is a standard that allows AI models to securely access external systems and data sources. By implementing MCP, Wix Headless can feed real-time business context to Codex, letting the AI make informed decisions about how to structure a site, configure payment flows, or set up booking rules based on actual business requirements.
This isn't Wix's first move into AI-driven workflows. The company recently partnered with Stripe to bring its full business backend to the Stripe Projects CLI, and has been steadily expanding its AI capabilities, including prompt-built animated websites through Wix Harmony.
Broader implications
The Codex Enterprise partnership positions Wix as infrastructure for AI agents, not just a website builder. If AI agents become a standard interface for deploying digital businesses, Wix is betting that developers will choose platforms that abstract away compliance, payments, and regulatory complexity.
For Codex users, this means they can prototype and ship businesses faster. Instead of stitching together separate services for payments, bookings, and inventory, they get a unified backend that's already configured and compliant.
The integration is available now to Codex Enterprise users. Wix has not disclosed pricing details specific to the Codex plugin, but access is tied to existing Wix Headless and OpenAI Codex Enterprise subscriptions.
