PostHog Pocket Guides Turn Product Playbooks Into One-Click Setups

PostHog is turning product education into something closer to an executable playbook. The analytics company has launched Pocket Guides, a series of short, mobile-friendly digital books that explain specific use cases and let readers configure them in their own products with one click.

The first volume covers PostHog’s “self-driving” capabilities. Sarah Shook, who announced Pocket Guides on LinkedIn, described the format as bite-sized pieces of PostHog organized around practical product use cases. More volumes are planned, although the company has not published a release schedule or named their subjects.

The notable part is not the book format alone. PostHog says each featured use case can be set up in a reader’s product with a single click, narrowing the gap between learning how a workflow operates and actually configuring it.

Documentation That Leads to Action

Analytics products frequently require users to translate documentation into a sequence of manual steps: choosing events, creating insights, setting filters and deciding what should happen when the data reveals a problem. That work can be manageable for a dedicated product analyst, but it creates friction for founders and small teams juggling several roles.

Pocket Guides appear designed to package that reasoning into a more guided experience. Instead of presenting an encyclopedic reference to every PostHog feature, a guide starts with a defined outcome, explains the relevant use case and provides a shortcut for applying it.

The launch announcement highlights three characteristics:

  • Short, use-case-based chapters, rather than long product documentation
  • One-click setup, allowing readers to install or configure the described use case in their product
  • Mobile optimization, so the guides can be read outside PostHog’s desktop interface

PostHog says the material can help teams “10x” their product, but that is the company’s framing rather than a quantified result. The more concrete benefit is faster implementation. A preconfigured workflow can reduce setup mistakes and help less experienced users discover features they may otherwise overlook.

There are still unanswered technical questions. PostHog has not explained publicly what the one-click action creates, whether configurations can be previewed before installation, or which project permissions are required. It also has not said whether the guides are available to every user or tied to particular plans.

Why Self-Driving Comes First

Choosing self-driving workflows for the first volume fits PostHog’s recent direction. The company has been expanding AI-assisted product analysis, including Replay Vision, which can inspect session recordings and surface user behavior. Create With previously covered how Replay Vision entered general availability and how it can answer specific user behavior questions.

PostHog’s August 2026 changelog also shows the Self-Driving Team refining “scouts,” automated agents that produce reports. Feedback submitted through Discuss, or through written thumbs-up and thumbs-down responses, can now become context for a scout’s later work.

That makes education particularly important. AI-led analysis is harder to adopt when users do not understand which questions to delegate, what context an agent needs or how its output should feed into product decisions. A focused guide can demonstrate an end-to-end workflow more effectively than a disconnected list of features.

For small businesses, Pocket Guides may be most useful as onboarding material and reusable operating procedures. A founder could select a use case, install its setup and then adapt it, rather than designing an analytics process from scratch. The practical value will depend on how transparent and editable those one-click configurations are.
