Item, a CRM built for product-led growth companies, announced on LinkedIn deeper integrations with PostHog and Stripe. The integration surfaces product usage from PostHog directly inside Item's CRM, giving sales teams visibility into how customers interact with the product alongside subscription and billing data.
When a customer subscribes through Stripe, their company and contact profiles automatically populate in Item with enrichment data. PostHog then tracks usage events across those profiles, building a live view of product engagement at both the individual and account level. Sales teams can combine this behavioral data with Stripe's billing information and Item's existing context to understand account health, expansion signals, and when to intervene.
Why This Matters for PLG Teams
Product-led growth companies face a persistent challenge: sales needs context that lives inside the product, not just the CRM. Traditional CRMs like Salesforce track deals and contacts well, but they weren't built to answer questions like "which features is this account using?" or "did usage drop after the trial ended?"
Item's founder Antonio Santanilla described the problem from his time at AngelList, where the team built custom workflows to pipe product data into Salesforce, trigger Slack alerts, and generate expansion signals. It worked, but required significant engineering effort to maintain.
The new PostHog integration moves that intelligence upstream. Instead of bolting product analytics onto a sales CRM, Item treats usage data as a first-class input. When PostHog tracks an event, such as a user completing onboarding or hitting a usage threshold, that signal appears in Item alongside deal stage and revenue metrics.
How the Integration Works
The flow begins when someone subscribes via Stripe. Item ingests the subscription event and creates enriched profiles using company and contact data. PostHog's event tracking then layers behavioral signals onto those profiles.
Key usage patterns surface automatically:
- Feature adoption: which parts of the product are being used, and by whom
- Engagement trends: whether activity is increasing or declining
- Cross-user behavior: how multiple people within the same account interact with the product
Item combines these signals with Stripe's billing events, such as upgrades, downgrades, or payment failures, to build a fuller picture of account health. Sales teams can see not just that revenue changed, but what product behavior preceded or followed that change.
Santanilla emphasized the value of this combined view for autonomous agents. Item's AI agents use the enriched context to determine when accounts need attention, whether for expansion opportunities or churn risk, and can act without waiting for a human to spot the pattern.
The Broader Shift in PLG Tooling
This integration reflects a broader trend: PLG companies need infrastructure that treats product data and sales data as equally important. PostHog has positioned itself as the analytics layer for product-led teams, recently cutting feature flag memory usage by 98 percent to handle high-scale deployments. Item is betting that CRMs must natively understand product usage, not just bolt it on through integrations.
For teams running PLG motions, the pitch is straightforward: stop building custom pipelines to connect your analytics tool to your CRM. Use a CRM that already speaks the language of product usage.
The integration is live now for Item customers. Teams using PostHog and Stripe can enable it through Item's settings. Pricing details were not disclosed in the announcement.
