A PostHog engineer has built HogFarm, a website builder designed specifically for farmers that automatically provisions analytics for each site without requiring users to manage API keys or sign up for separate accounts.
Matt Brooker, who works at PostHog, announced the project on LinkedIn, explaining that he initially built a site to sell shares of pigs from his homestead using Claude, then realized other farmers could benefit from a dedicated website builder. "Most farmers have better things to do than sign up for accounts and copy paste API keys," Brooker wrote.
Embedded Analytics Without the Setup
The key technical feature is automatic PostHog account provisioning. When a farmer creates a website through HogFarm, the platform creates a separate PostHog analytics instance behind the scenes and embeds the analytics directly into their HogFarm dashboard. Users can track visitor behavior, conversions, and site performance without touching configuration files or managing third-party integrations.
This approach removes friction for non-technical users who want data without the overhead. Instead of farmers learning PostHog's interface, they see relevant metrics surfaced in the context of their website builder dashboard.
Template-First Approach for Agriculture
HogFarm targets a specific use case: agricultural businesses that need simple, functional websites. The builder provides templates tailored to farm operations, including pages for selling meat shares, CSA subscriptions, and direct-to-consumer products. Brooker's original use case, selling pig shares from his homestead, serves as the archetype.
The project reflects a broader trend of vertical-specific builders that bundle analytics and infrastructure. Rather than forcing small business owners to stitch together Webflow, Stripe, and analytics tools, platforms like HogFarm handle integration out of the box.

PostHog's Growing Embedded Use Cases
This isn't PostHog's first appearance in embedded analytics scenarios. The company has previously shipped customer-facing analytics APIs designed for SaaS products that want to surface data to their own users, and rebuilt its data warehouse infrastructure to better serve both internal product teams and end-user dashboards.
HogFarm demonstrates how open-source analytics platforms enable developers to white-label and embed functionality without rebuilding from scratch. By provisioning accounts programmatically, builders can offer analytics as a built-in feature rather than an add-on.
Brooker noted in his post that a detailed blog write-up is available, though the link was shared in the comments of the LinkedIn announcement. The project appears to be a side experiment rather than an official PostHog product, but it showcases practical applications of the platform's API and multi-tenancy capabilities.
